Re: To band or not to band....

,

You are definitely not alone in anything that you're feeling. I

noticed my son's flat spot when he was 2 months old. I aggressively

repositioned. He only sleeps on his tummy now - even at night. I

avoid car seats, play yards, swings, etc as much as possible. I even

got him a walker way before he could reach the floor with his feet

just to keep him off his head. I've been doing that for 2 months now,

and while his head has improved, I know that it will never improve to

my satisfaction without the band, and I didnt want to regret not

banding him. So, he's getting his on Friday at just over the age of

four months. It was a very difficult decision. No one wants their

kid in a helmet, with the skin problems that can occur and frankly

with other kids and parents wondering what's wrong with him. But,

especially at such a young age, the time that he is banded will be

just a blink - but without banding, it will be a lifetime of living

with an issue that could have been corrected. You're not alone, and

whatever decision you make will be right for you and your family.

One thing that may help with your decision: google " adults with

plagiocephaly " . You'll get lots of results, but one in particular was

helpful to me. http://forums.craniology.org has stories from

countless adults wishing they could correct their plagio. It was a

much easier decision after reading their thoughts, because I put my

son in their shoes.

Good luck!
