Hi a!

Good to hear from you!

Im not sure what to think about this surgeon in Brazil....what if its a

hoax? Do you have any way to verify this information? I think if I was

going out of the country I would go to a reputable surgeon such as Dr

Baltasar in Spain.....nobody knows anything about this one in

Brazil....arent you a bit scared to do that? I would even go to Mexico

first before Brazil!

Brazil? Let me know what is going on. I always think about you and had been

wondering how you were doing!

Hi Judie-

I checked his website and had it translated. He is a member of all of the

important organizations and appears to be highly qualified. Having lived in

Mexico, I would have no qualms about going to the right doctor at the right

hospital for just about any procedure. I believe that Brazil is equal to or

better than anything Mexico might have to offer. All that I found in Mexico

was the adjustable band and RNY, anyway. Like with any doctor, you have to

do your homework. I wouldn't be afraid, though, just because someone is in

Brazil.

The doctor actually charges $5,000, which is less than I originally said.

It's only a little more than the program fee that some doctors in the East

are charging.

Hi Lisbeth! Thank you for the kind words! I plan to contact the doctor but I

first need to buy a pre-paid international calling card so I can call Brazil.

When I do call and talk with the doc I will let you all know! I hope it will

uplifting news! God bless, a, pre-op 220lbs. :)

sounds good Nick......I would hope though if anyone goes that far from home

that they take someone with them just in case...(same as with Spain except

Dr B is beloved by all who have gone there)

He does sound too good to be true!! (the fee) glad he is another option.

Judie,

My PCP said that right now Brazil is the Plastic Surgery Center of

the world. Because they have a high level of expertise, and because

their prices are so low, it is the most economical place to have any

plastic surgery done, and a number of her patients have gone with

excellent results.

I know it is a stretch, but I would think the standard of medical

care would also be extended to other specialties and this DR. is

American trained. It would be wonderful if this turns out to be

another option. Just think that there are only about 40 odd Doctors

world wide who offer the DS right now. The more there are, the more

options people will have, and the more likely the insurance companies

will come around to acknowledging that this is the Platinum standard

in obesity surgery!

By the way...I am still not tangoing with this darn knee...back in

for somemore treatment in the hospital next week I think. Please keep

me in your prayers!

Ouch!!!!! Good thing they will knock you out for that!

I wonder if it had anything to do with your not excersizing that knee right

in the beginning and kept it up for those two weeks they did nothing for

you??

Judie,

I have an interesting little thing called adhesions. I sure hope

that doesn't carry over to my DS surgery. the knee has locked up and

can't move beyond a certain point...so next step they put me under

and force the leg to break the scar tissue. Fun, eh?

Tiger,

I'm sorry, I don't have any details. It just came up in passing with

my PCP because we were discussing the DS and how some of her patients

were going to Spain with Dr. Balthasar because they could not afford

Dr. Rabkin and the hospital costs. She then segued to overseas

medicine and where she felt it was and wasn't safe. Laughing...she

is from Ghana I believe, is the best doctor I have ever had, and the

most open minded. I taught her the DS and since then over 10 of her

patients are going for the surgery. 2 of them have already had the

surgery with Dr. Rabkin, and I was whining about being first to apply

and still not having a surgery date.

I will be seeing her next week and will see if she can give me any

referrals.

Brasil. --Steve

Actually, the Brazilian doctor emailed back and said that he does the DS, in

addition to the Scopinaro. He also has the best of credentials and training

(USA % Britain!

Did you get any other information from him such as how many DS he has

done, the length of the common channel, size of stomach, etc?

, curious in Seattle

Hi Chantal

Gee I have never heard of that place! Ha, how sad is that?

Have you joined Magic yet? There's a lady in Guelph with a 13 or 14 year old

son with growth hormone deficiency. She can be found on the Magic web site.

Take care

Bon Jour !

Bien venue! je suis tres contente de faire votre connaissance.

Thanks so much for writing!! I know you'll get some wonderful

responses from this listserve...Also:

1st: There is a listserve devoted to adults living with RSS! Go

here to join: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RSS-People/

2nd: consider coming to the MAGIC Foundation's annual convention,

held in Chicago in July! I think it would a great opportunity for

you to meet other RSS adults as well as offer inspiration to other

families. I know that the adults who have attended in the past have

all enjoyed the experience.

3rd: Would you like to write a little story about how you have dealt

with RSS? We would love to include it in our next newsletter!!!!!!!!

Good luck.!

Welcome !

I have a 3 year old daughter with RSS. Several adults with RSS often post

at this site and I am sure some will respond. I’m also glad a fellow

Canadian responded as well! There is another group just for RSS adults, but

I have forgotten it’s exact name right now. I’m sure they will speak up if

they haven’t already.

Again, WELCOME!
