Natural means that nothing artificial is in the product. Like no food

coloring, artificial flavors.

Organic means that the product was grown without using pesticides or

fungicides. Organic meat means that the animal was raised being fed

organic foods.

So, organic food costs a lot more because it is a lot more difficult

to grow crops without using pesticides/fungicides.

And of course, since organic feed costs more than regular feed,

animals that are raised eating organic food will cost more to feed so

the meat costs more when the animal is slaughtered.

suspect and on SCD we avoid products so designated.

Gi-HUGE-ic difference. Google 'organic criteria', or something

similar.

It sure is. " Natural " may have started out meaning 'crap-free', but

now it is mainly a marketing tool. There's this great commerical on TV

that has cute little signs that say " 10% Sodium Benzote " and " 15%

Fructose sweetened " stuck in piles of fresh fruit. The ad is for some

juice, and the idea is if you would not buy the food source filled

with junk, why would you pay for trash to be added to your juice? :-)

Pretty funny.

" Certified Organic " however, is defined by law and has regulatory

agenices. Personally, I trust Oregon Tilth over the USDA, but that's

just cynical me.

Organic is more than pesticide-free. The foods/animals are NOT

genetically engineered, the water sources are tested, and the soil the

crops/animals are raised on must be free from pesicides/pollutants for

x number of years before they are allowed to market goods

as 'organic'. It is costly endeavour to maintain organic status for

these companies, and not cheap to buy from them, either. Worth it IMO

and absolutely nec for our very chemically sensative child. I

certainly wasn't feeding him arsenic (chicken feed), mercury (large

predator fish and bottom-dwellers) purposefully. But Glenn's got that

crap in his system.

I mean, there are studies showing jet fuel showing up in breast

milk...pretty freakish.

So, if you come over to our house for dinner, you won't get nuts and

seeds, but you'll have a great pastured steak and mushrooms (w/ bone

marrow broth), organic salad, and

'squash pudding' for dessert, lol. But that's just Tuesdays ;-)
