Guest guest
Hi everyone. I have a question for you all. I have been wondering if children with apraxia/dyspraxia tend to be on the small side in size. Is this the norm for them? My son is going to be in second grade this year. I took for his 8 yr old well child visit yesterday. He only weighs 45.5 lbs and is 44 inches tall (3ft some odd inches). He is below the 5th percentile on the growth chart in weight and height both. Since birth he has been on the very small size. Is this the norm for children with apraxia/dyspraxia. I am just curious if this is just my child. I was wondering out of curiousity (my own) if others children were small in size also. Thank you for any feedback. Guest guest
I don't believe apraxia has anything to do with being over or undersized because in the group we have children at both ends of the extreme...and many in the norm too -just like if you took a sample of any group of children. My son Tanner for example of the opposite (as you'll find in the archives) has always been off the charts tall for his age. When he was 3 a geneticist had him go for a wrist X- ray to rule out if his bones were growing faster then his body...but in fact his bone age was younger then his chronological age...which meant that Tanner is going to be a tall guy one day. Today at 10 Tanner's about as tall as many 13 year olds. Dawn just met him for the first time at Disney -so perhaps she can share. =====
Guest guest
Don't know if it's the norm - if it is, Josh is way off the norm! He's huge! Josh is 8 years old, too, weighs 92 pounds (he is overweight) but is also 53 inches tall! He's almost as tall as my mom! He was very small at birth (5 lbs., 11 oz.) and only 19 inches. But he has done nothing but grow, grow, grow!! Sherry Jeanne <jamie199866@...> wrote: Hi everyone. I have a question for you all. Guest guest
May I add some thoughts too? Since some of the kids MAY have issues with gluten, casein, food allergies or malabsorbed dietary fat, that can lead to " failure to thrive " . If there's anything I've learned from all of this -- it's all connected! You can't have digestive issues and expect the brain to perform well, you can't expect growth if nutrients are being absorbed, etc. > > I don't believe apraxia has anything to do with being over or > undersized because in the group we have children at both ends of the > extreme...and many in the norm too -just like if you took a sample > of any group of children.
