First of all....welcome to the losing side! I think you may be

experiencing some " head hunger " . The rumbling you are hearing or

feeling possibly could be your insides moving back into place. I

know I felt and heard (and everyone else heard) when my intestines

were moving back into place. Not to mention when the gas started

moving. Do not give in to the thoughts of hunger. Drink more

fluids. You are at the stage when you should only be on liquids

anyways. Cream soups were good. I would heat them up and strain

them then strain them again to make sure I got all the pieces of meat

out. I also ate alot of SF popsicles at that stage. And yogurt. I

would strain the yogurt and eat about 1/3 of the cup then eat some

more later. When I advanced to the soft stage....I ate alot of

cottage cheese. It went down good and I was able to " mush " it up

really good in my mouth before I swallowed it. Drink as much water as

you can to keep hydrated and this will also give you the full feeling

alot longer. Remember to sip the water and do not gulp. I made the

mistake of gulping and it really hurt!

Did you have open or lap done?

Take care and I am glad that you are home.

God Bless

Nora,

I ate SF Jello, soups...any kind except I strained them, SF Pudding,

SF popsicles, Yogurt (I found that the Walmart Great Value brand

lite had less sugar in it than any of the others), SF Ice Cream, Any

thing that is considered liquid. Did your dr give you a list of

things that you can eat? Mine did but it is at home and I am

currently in Baltimore visiting with my mom. I never had any luck

with the protein shakes. I did drink SF Carnation Instant

Breakfast. I would use skim milk to make it and I drank it several

times a day. I also had apple juice. (unsweetened) but only drink 2-

3 oz of it per day cause of the natural sugars in it.

If I think of anything else I will let you know. Don't get

discouraged...you will be eating solid food before you know it.

I had the open done but I am sure that the guidelines are the same

for lap or open. Do not be afraid to ask your surgeon for guidance.

Or call the dietician. Every surgeon is different in what they will

and won't allow their patients to have...so be sure to call him to

ask any questions.

Nora, I too think maybe what you're feeling is head hunger. I had a lot at

first, but it's very seldom now. And my inside's were making all kinds of

noises too! I just had to be tough and not give in to what others were

eating. Smells and visual drove me crazy..... " just one bite " ....but I know

I wouldn't stop at one bite. It really does get easier.

Nora, yes, I see people eating & my brain says " go for it " ...and then I have

to tell myself it wouldn't be good for me. Now sometimes, it's just an

automatic reach for something sweet, and then I think " I don't want to eat

that " and halt. It's become much easier for me, and I am satisfied with

what I can eat.

Water, Crystal light, decaf coffee, decaf tea, sugar-free kool aid, sf hot

cocoa, soups. Can't think of more, but I'm sure someone will.

That is " head hunger " . Yes it is normal to feel that way. However you are

going to have to learn to get over it. That is what got us in this

situation to begin with. However the good news is that is does get better

over time. Keep focused on why you had this surgery. In time as you lose

weight your quality of life will begin to improve so much that thinking

about what you can't eat will become a much smaller issue. Focus is the

key. When you feel like this drink something or do something else that

gives you pleasure.

You can drink lots of things other than water. Crystal light, diet Snapple,

juice (cut it in half with water), fruit 2 o, broth, sugar free popsicles,

SF Kool-Aid (Grape flavor is my personal favorite). Gosh I know there are

more but I can't think of them right now. Mix it up...with more variety you

will get less bored and think less of other things.

Let us know how we can help!!!

YES, its hard sometimes not having the goodies... its hard watching people

eat those things that used to push my pleasure buttons ... but too, I keep

reminding myself Nora, that eating less, for me, is about more than just the

weight loss/control issues. Its about not having my feet amputated, my hands

chopped off , my legs replaced with prosthetics. It' about waking up every

morning without pain my knees ... its about not losing my eye sight!!!

cuzzz......It would be terrible, not being able to come to the computer every

morning to read my WLS family Emails ....
