Guest guest
Yes, I am another who had menses cycle changes. After being regular for decades (every 30 days always), as soon as I started LDN, I skipped a month, then bled heavy for 10 days straight. It's back on track now for the last few months, and usually a bit milder than the last several years. I was having periods from hell with unbearable pain. I know of another gal who gave up on LDN because of the severity of her menstrual problems induced after starting LDN. I am not willing to do that. The only other negative effect LDN has had for me is insomnia/ sleep cycle reversal. I had this to some extent prior to LDN as it is associated w/ Lyme Disease, but it has been exacerbated to an extreme now much more severe than previous years. The positive effects of lessened pain in general and increased energy (offset of the so-called CFS) still make LDN worth taking. I may experiment w/ a morning vs evening dose soon and see if the sleep cycle reversal responds. [low dose naltrexone] How many females had increase in menses after going on LDN? I went from having zero periods for 3 years to having 2 per month shortly after starting LDN. This has now been going on for over 3 years for me. I'll take the periods over the pain.I will add the lady in South Africa to this as she no longer has access to this group since she uses cellphone email only now. She started having 2 menses cycles in the same pattern as I shortly after starting LDN over a year ago.Anyone else notice menses cycle changes since starting LDN?I sure would like to talk to Dr. Phil Boyle about this and see if any of his patients have had an increase in menses since starting LDN Maybe could ask him for us. Guest guest
Bren, Just to give you my update to add to the information you seem to be gathering. I am 41 and my periods were not consistently every month but they are now since LDN. I have only been on LDN since the end of June. Maybe I will get to 2 a month but I am not there now. -- [low dose naltrexone] How many females had increase in menses after going on LDN? Guest guest
I've never had problems in that area, thank goodness. From puberty until about 38 years of age, 4 - 5 days per cycle was normal. At age 39, my doc had me start taking Pregnenolone (30mg) and DHEA (25mg), and my cycle can be predicted every 29 days and lasts maybe 2 days. By that age everyone's hormones are naturally decreasing. JMHO...but I feel it just balanced me. The doc says if your car has 4 flats, it doesn't do any good to just fix one of them. That's why putting women on estrogen only (usually after a hysterectomy) doesn't work. Anyway, it seems to have worked for me. LDN hasn't changed anything. Two cycles per month...one week long each...just knock me in the head and be done with it! Marcie

Guest guest
, I truly believe that there has to be a hormone imbalance. I don't know how accurate hormone panels are, but it sounds like it might be worth looking into. Two cycles per month sounds like misery to me. All hormone levels decrease with age, and we know that LDN affects individuals differently. I have too much stiffness to have to deal with that type of situation! Guest guest
I guess this really emphasizes the need for more research on LDN, there is still so much to learn.>> Mine are not increasing in frequency but in heaviness. I am checking my options on how to stop my periods and birth control shots or pills is not one I'm looking at. There is a minor surgical procedure my GYN has mentioned and I think I may discuss this with her again. I'm nearing 44 years of age and I'm not going to be giving birth. I want to find out the long-term risks/side effects if any with this that she has suggested.

In the beginning I thought maybe the LDN was trying to regulate me but so far it's been 3 years and 4 1/2 months of menses misery. But LDN has stopped my disease progression and reduced my pain to tolerable so I'll continue on with the LDN. Yep that stiffness/spasticity does pose quite a problem. I'll spare the group on details here, LOL.
Guest guest
I am having a similar experience. I started LDN at the end of August and had no period in September or October. This month, I just started the second. I was thinking is was probaly menapause related, but maybe it is the LDN if others are experiencing similar issues. On a related (or unrelated subject), the bladder issues seem to come back to the forefront with the periods. I think my first MS symptom was urgency, and that was during that time of the month. Very strange.
