Guest guest
Hi , My ocular symptoms have been pretty severe, they started over a year and a half ago. My vision is not good, I have astigmatism and myopia and my prescription is higher than anyone I've ever known. When I came to the realization that I couldn't wear my contacts full time anymore somtimes I couldn't wear them for weeks or months, I did not want to leave my house. I only felt like crawling under a rock and not ever coming out, but life goes on. At first I panicked and lost hope and every visit to the eye doctor just made me feel worse because I felt there was no hope. I have been researching my condition since I've had it. The thing that I keep coming to is the hot compresses, if you do those at least 2 to 3 times a day for a full month and then once a day once the condition is under control, it will hopefully help you a lot. I've done this since I stopped taking the antibiotic. Also, I buy the Ocusoft cleansing pads and clean my eyelids every night before I go to bed. If my eyes feel worse than usually I do it twice, once in the morning and once at night. Sometimes your eyes get too dry when you do this twice a day so I tend to stick to once a day. For the hot compresses which is one of the most important things you can do for this condition, I use the WrapOns brand of hot and cold therapy pack. I bought it at CVS pharmacies in Boston, MA where I live. This packs come in full sheets with little 3 inch squares you can cut fill with water and put in the microwave for about 50 seconds, is hot enought to put on your eye but not burning. This pack keeps the heat for about 5 to 10 minutes and is more convenient than anything else I've tried so far. Out of everything I've tried so far, the hot compresses seem to help the most, combined with the Ocusoft cleansing pads at night seems to have been working Ok, but unfortunately I still felt some discomfort like sand in my eyes. I've been taking the Vitamin E for 3 days and my eyes have been feeling a little bit better so I have hope it works. Besides all of this things I've done, I've also been praying and my mom has her entire church praying for me, I am touched that they've all care so much for me, for I do not want to loose the sight that I still have. Good luck and I hope this helps, it has helped me without having to take the antibiotics. Rynnette Re: Rynnette- Hi, I have ocular rosacea too, I don't have stye's or chalazions, but I do have red burning eyes. Did the Vit. E help with the redness and burning too? Thanks for any info. I've been diagnoised with rosacea since the end of June of this year. Been using Noritate once a day and cleansing with Cetaphil. (Even went to the beach this summer with no problems). However, and this is the big however, I have ocular rosacea. I have an eye doctors appointment 10/16. In the meantime, I have been using Muro 128.5 Ointment for the eyes. This can be purchased over the counter. I have been using that for an injury to my other eye. When I started experiencing the feeling of have something in my eye, and then, when I opened my eyes, it would scratch the cornea, I just started using the ointment in my " good " eye, too. I have not had any problems since I've used that ointment. I'll have to wait and see what the eye doctor says. Lynette
Guest guest
I also have the ocular component to my rosacea, in fact it is further advanced then my dermal component. What started as bloodshot eyes a couple of years ago (and only after little sleep or a stressful day) has turned into continually bloodshot eyes and discomfort. You can find a lot on ocular rosacea if you do a search from Google. Apart from having blood vessels near the surface, and thus the bloodshot look, more serious complications can arise if new blood vessels begin to grow. The final result can be blindness. You should see your doc or an optometrist pronto--i've been to busy to go but the more I read, the more scared I get. Deryk

Guest guest
meant for the group. ----- Forwarded message from bbaylis2002 Fuzzyfeat@...> ----- Date: Wed, 05 Jun 2002 03:29:33 -0000 Reply-To: bbaylis2002 Fuzzyfeat@...> Subject: Ocular cea To: rosacea-support-owner I have had red eyes since October. I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis a few weeks before. At first the Othomologist and my rheumatiodologist thought I had Sjogrens Syndrome, Dry eyes and Mouth, After 6 months of treatment for Sjogrens syndrome and no improvement I was refered to a Othomologist specialist for Dry Eyes from Boston Ma. He thinks I have Ocular cea. I am on Doxyciclin 100 mg 1 a day. Thera Tears eye drops, I read that flax seed Oil was good for dry eyes and have taken that for several months, He now is putting me on Rexall Fish Oil. I have seen a little improvement in my eyes but wake up with red eyes in the morning most mornings. Does anyone know how long it will take for the redness to go away? Or will it ever go away? Did the wrong treatment hinder my eyes getting better? I also seem to be sensitive to bright sunlight. Is this Common? My Rheumotologist still thinks I have Sjogrens Syndrome. But the Dry eye specialist says it is Ocular cea because my ANA is negative. My C-reactive protein went to 210.While I was with the first RA Dr. But has come down to 10.60 in March. I don't know what my last test showed. The first Rheumotologist wasn't treating me very well, or at all really for that matter, and I was suffering a great deal before I was able to get into the new Rheumotologist. I had a great deal of inflamation and in a great deal of pain with the RA. I would appreciate any suggestions anyone has at this point. I have been reading post here but don't find much on Ocular cea. Anyone have any other Places to look? you can contact me at Fuzzyfeat@... Thanks, Barbara ----- End forwarded message -----
