Guest guest
Just a bit of caution on the subject of NOT immunizing the kids... I've seen (not with my kids thank goodness) pertussis. The toddler did not survive. It was one of the most horrifying things I've ever seen. You all probably know the horrors of Tetanus too -- another lethal and horrifying bacteria. There are some kids for whom the risks of the vaccine are too high to immunize. However, some of these kids are more at risk for catching these diseases and therefore in the VAST majority of cases, the benefits outweigh the risks. One of my kids actually anaphylaxed to Tetanus titer on an assay (a small prick test). When it is time for him to get the Tetanus we will STILL give it to him, in tiny doses in a controlled environment. Tetanus is everywhere and boys/men are too " special " to avoid those rusty nails. I couldn't live with myself if I didn't protect him from it. Same with pertussis. I suggest caution. I also strongly encourage those of you putting off these immunizations to consult with a good, trusted allergist/immunologist on the subject -- one who can give you the latest, most up-to-date trends on immunization side effects and risk profiles, and one who knows your child's allergy history well. My 2 cents - Steph. __________________________________________________
