Guest guest
Vicki...My moms back was also BENT OVER. I cannot believe you described exactly what my dear mom was going through. I have pictures of my mom, 7 months ago, and you can see how her back was bending. She, also had a hard time walking. She would almost drag her feet, taking little steps. I was in the mall with her, just 2 days before she got real sick, and I noticed she was having a real hard time walking. I would like to know if anyone could tell me if their loved one had gum problems. I remember, about 3 months before mom died, she showed me her gums. She wore false teeth, and her gums were all red..almost looked infected. She was using salt & water for rinsing her mouth, she was not a complainer at all...so for her to show me her bottom gum, and how bad it looked, I should have realized there was a problem! Sometimes I blame myself, for not doing more for her...Sincerly...nne

Guest guest
Dad would grab the side of his neck and top of his shoulder every so often and get this horrid look of intense pain. At which point he would say " Something bad is in my head " . He hit the nail on the head, we had no idea at that time that it was CJD. I wonder if the hunching is a defense position to the gate disorder in CJD. I know when you are afraid you're going to fall, your position will change to a hunch or a squat. Liz. Guest guest
Liz, It was much more severe than a defensive position against falling. It was not a " hunching over " -- it was a very distressing right angle. She had to work to raise her head to see in front of her because if she didn't purposely raise it, she only looked at the ground. Her head would be parallel to the ground--not at an angle. It seemed to begin with a little hunching of her shoulders--we teased her about too much time at the sewing machine. Then very quickly--maybe in less than two weeks her neck vertebra at shoulder height seemed to turn from upright to this weird, uncomfortable position. I wish I could draw it for you. Just spent 20 minutes with MS Paint, sort of drew it and thought I'd saved it and lost it!! Don't have time now to try again. Its tax season for me and I am swamped. How's your job going? Are you surviving with family, job and this little hobby? Take care, Vicki
Guest guest
Vicki: Yes, I remember the 'stand' (or lack thereof), I also remember the look of terror in Dad's eyes everytime the PT would come in and make him walk. The new job is great! It has been a major adjustment but well worth it I think! Take care. Liz
Guest guest
Hi, Early on in the illness, when we could talk about things, Mom said that she remembered having a very intense pain shoot through on both sides of her neck. So bad that she thought she had passed out. This was when we thought she had had a stroke still and not knowing how strokes initially affect people we thought her arteries were becoming blocked and thats why she had those feelings. Of course they weren't because we had that test done. Interesting that most have this neck pain of some sort. Do you suppose that they have this pain since this disease affects the central nervous system? Robin

Guest guest
My mother would always tell me her neck was stiff....She use to roll her head from one side to another, she claimed to " exercise my neck " ..... She said it made her feel better. I thought maybe she had arthritis in her neck.....She would NEVER complain. That was not her style. Everyday I think of one more thing I missed..... If I had only known.... Suzanne Re: Shoulder/Neck Pain >From: LArmstr853@... > >Dad would grab the side of his neck and top of his shoulder every so often and >get this horrid look of intense pain.
