Guest guest
********The best help I have been able to find is a combination of medications from my Doctors. Amitriptyline is for Anxiety, but it works wonders for sleep. I have a standing order for 50mg-100mg. It takes about 2-3 hours to work on me and I can usually go to sleep. The bottom line of my sleep problems ( I use to have sleep apnea before WLS) is I feel that it is having Anxiety, stress, worry, etc. ******** Yup I agree with Pete on this one! Since I lost my job my sleep pattern got even worse. And most of it has been due to stress and anxiety. I didn't have a problem falling asleep, but would wake up in an hour or 2, wide awake and ready to pop out of bed. Then of course I would lay in the dark, thinking about my problems, worrying and stressing. I felt as though I kept trying to put my worries and fears in a drawer, one drawer per worry....and I was trying to keep these drawers shut, but I'd no sooner put one away then another drawer would pop open. I'd slam that one shut and Bam! Here goes 2 more popping out! I told this to my pcp and he put me on elavil (amitriptyline) starting at 25 mg dose. He at that time gave me restoril as well and said to take both at bedtime. The reason he did this was that it would take a week to 10 days before the elavil reached a good level in my bloodstream and when it did one of the side effects of it was drowsiness. So I would take both for about a week, then lay off the restoril. It took some tweaking till I got to the correct dosage (100 mgs) but I find that within 30 minutes of taking it I'm nodding off at the computer. I still wake up to pee but have no problems getting back to sleep. lol, I've taken a short nap or two on the potty too! While I still have my worries and stress they don't invade and intrude on my every waking moment. So I guess the message I'm trying to say is....tell your doctor!! Guest guest
My sleep problems started when I went on Wellbutrin. Most sleep aides left me groggy in the morning, and I didn't want to take anything, but getting up at 2:00am and 4:00am every night was effecting my work. He prescribed Sonata, a short-acting drug. It's great - it puts me back to sleep, but I can get up early for work and not feel its effects. Helene RNY 12/22/99 350/

Guest guest
I've been following this thread and I guess it's my turn.... There have been many reasons for broken sleep myself. I had problems going through my divorce, 3yrs out from my surgery. The doctor put me on Zoloft, to help me get myself together. I still take it 6yrs. later since I used to have very bad panic attacks and don't on the med. I had always been a stay at home mom. At the time of the divorce, my last child was going off to school. At that point in my life, I decided to go back to school. I went to school full time and worked to feed my kids. My degree is in forestry and so the jobs I worked related to the field. With that and keeping up with football, baseball, school activities, homework and everyday life with my 3 kids...I found myself getting up nearly every night to feed. I was so active that my body seemed to need the food at night. I would be wide awake. I didn't really eat much but I was hungry. Afterwards, I could go right back to sleep, no problem. My newest sleep problem has been about being able to get to sleep. I seem to have Restless Leg Syndrome. This subject is not talked about much but believe me, it is very real. I have finally gotten the right medication and am not having problems with it. Guess what though? I've been doing a lot of reading on nutrients lately. I find that missing nutrients in our system can cause the symtoms of RLS. Funny how this all began about the same time my blood work started showing I was a little low on some things.
