Hi Les, I may not have the right answer for you, but for me, when I wake,

because it is so long since I have eaten, my numbers are higher than 2 hours

after a meal. I believe it is referred to as the dawn phenomenon. See what

everyone else says.

Les,

As a type II your pancreas is still producing some insulin, so after you

noon meal your med has kicked in and in all probability so has you pancreas

with more insulin. Often times our fasting is higher due to something called

dawn phenomenon. This is where around 6-8 hrs. into sleep our body needs

more energy to do automatic jobs, like heart beating, breathing etc. So our

body automatically releases more glucose into our system. But this does not

work if we do not have enough insulin to work on this glucose thus causing a

higher bg fasting in the A.M.

Hi --

I have been diabetic for 30 years and take 4 or more shots per day. I have the

same problem daily with my bloodsugars and ketones. If the doctor's solution

has not helped call him/her again or call the emergency room. I have had to

take as many as 4 boosters to bring mine down. But then of course you have to

monitor more often to avoid the downside (too low). Your doctor is supposed to

be there 24/7 for you so don't hesitate. Good luck!

Let me know how it goes.

[alldiabeticinternational] question

has anyone had this happen: my daughter, 11 years old, dx'd at 5,

woke up today at a whopping 388 with lg. ketones

then went to 277, 211, 107 and now at 69, still having lg. ketones,

i called the doctor, who told me to give her a booster of 1 unit of

humalog, which i did at 3:00, and that was supposed to help get rid

of the ketones, however that has not worked. any suggestions?

thank you all for your help!

Yes, I definitly have encountered these problems. Along with the

insulin give a readily available glucose such as orange juice. An

over simple explanation for how this works is that it gives the

insulin the ability to clear the system. It always worked for us.

God bless your daughter and may she quickly clear this problem.

thank you so much for your advice and info. I am also type 1, for 28

years now, but boy did that low sugar with ketones throw me for a

loop! She is doing a bit better, after dropping to 57, and still

having lg. ketones, the doctor told me to get her sugar up over 200,

by giving her some gatorade, which i did, and she was 508, with

moderate ketones, and I gave her 2 units of humalog, and now she is

at 360, and small ketones, so hopefully those ketones will be on the

way out. take care! i wish you all well.

Someone may have already posted this cause I am a little slow at

reading all the posts. Ketones can stay in your system for several

hours. They need to be flushed out. Have her drink fluids(especially

water) to flush them lil' meanies out. God bless,Donna

I didn't realize that the ketons still being there with the sugar

dowwn was the thrust of the question. I would have told you that it

takes a while for ketones to clear. Even when the sugar is high

somethng like Gatoraid is the way to clear them. We were always able

to keep our daughter out of the hospital when kids were in the

hospital a lot. When she was away at college she messed up (I

understand that is a common occurance with teens)and ended up very

near death. The doctor was using all the skills he had but was very

doubtful that she would recover. At our suggestion he replaced the

saline drips with glucose. He had never heard of this. In a few

hours she was showing some response and was out of ICU in about 3

days and a few more days to clear.

I'm glad your daughter is doing better, and hope she is " all " better

shortly.

Yes thats completely normal. If you have been feeling great you may

have done too much without realizing it. You have had major surgery,

are eating WAY WAY less than you ever have....your body is just

finally realizing it and wondering what the hell you did to it. If it

persists after really really resting..call your doctor. But really try

allowing yourself to rest and recouperate.

Tina my surg was 5/16/05 and today I am feeling the same way. I forced myself to take a 20 min walk but I think its time for the nap no energy. They say it is normal to feel this way. When are you schedueld to go back to work? Vegging is ok once in awhile we went thru allot and we will have good and bad days so don't worry about this it will pass. Listen to your body. Make sure you are drinking enough and eatting your protein. Take care

I feel like a complete zombie. I thought I had been resting. Just

doing short little walks during the day and drinking my water and

eating my protein at my 3 meals. I've been getting 9 hours of sleep

at night but feel like I could sleep for another 6. Kind of hard

with 3 kids around (2 of my own plus 1 of my girlfriends). I went

back to work (starting taking my girlfriends 13month old back) on

Monday. Maybe it's just more work than I think it is.

I'll just try resting more. I really wanted to go to a water

aerobics class tomorrow morning. Dr. Baggs said I could. I guess

I'll just wait and see how I feel in the morning.

Thanks for the advice !

I've just felt so good the entire time so this is weird for me.

Today is the first day where I feel completely out of it and just

dopey. I was planning on going to the support group meeting tonight

but maybe I should just go to bed!

Thanks Rose for the reminder!

WOW no wonder you are feeling so tired. I think taking care of a 13

month old so soon will totally wipe you out. I took 4 weeks off work,

but then again I had open. Make sure to take care of yourself!!

Yup, normal. At least that's the way things went for me. If you're

concerned or if it lasts more than a couple of days, give your doc a

quick call.
