Guest guest
Hi , I am very glad you wrote in. I felt very alone since I found these groups, they have been very helpful for me. Talkint to other people with the same condition has made me feel more “normalâ€. No one really knows what it is like until you have been through it ☺ 6 months ago I found out I had an abnormal uterus too. They were not sure if it was b/u or a normal shape but separated by a septum. They did the HSG and still could not tell. My doctor explained to me that the HSG basically shows you the uterus from one view point, and sometimes a B/U and a separated uterus can look the same from that viewpoint. For me the next step was a laparoscopy (that is where they put a camera through your belly button and look down onto the uterus to confirm the shape.) Mine happen to be a normal shape from above so they went in from below and cut the septum out. Originally my doctor had also suggested a MRI but I had heard that it was expensive and also isn’t 100% definitive so I opted for a laparoscopy instead. Good luck tomorrow ☺ Nickey ________________________________________ From: MullerianAnomalies [mailto:MullerianAnomalies ] On Behalf Of angelhugs11 Sent: Sunday, January 15, 2006 5:41 PM To: MullerianAnomalies Subject: Who has been diagnosed with B/U? Hi Everyone! My name is and I was diagnosed with B/U 2 weeks ago. I was having major abdominal pain and thought when I went in your my anual pap I wouls let him know. He suggested I have an u/s. I went in for the u/s and they found a simple cyst on my left ovary. They said no big deal they come and go, but will keep an eye on it. They said everything else looked pretty good, but it kind of showed I had an abnormal uterus called Bicornate (sp?). My dr. wanted me to take an hsg test to be sure. I went in the New year's eve day and found out it was confirmed. He said to come back in to have a consultation. My consultation is tomorrow evening. I have read alot on the internet what they do have about this condition. I am confused though some sites say hsg test is not accurate. I am not sure if my dr. will want me to do other tests due to my appt. being tomorrow. What has everyone's experience been with this situation. What kind of advice and support can you give? I will post tomorrow on what my dr. says. Thanks for listening and in advance thank you for posting your advice and support. Guest guest
This is what I posted yesterday............... Just wanted to let everyone know of my meeting with my dr. tonight regarding my hsg test. He did confirm with me I have a B/U. I asked him if this could be wrong because with everything I heard and read that B/U is usally misdiagnosed. He said the way mine is shaped and through the u/s they took he is sure of it. I trust him fully not many people I can say that. He said 80% of women who have this condition go full-term but the cons can be pre-term, c-section because baby being breeched and miscarriages. At this point he sees no reason for us not to be able to have a baby. However, I did tell him since my husband and I met in April 2004 99.9% of the time we had sex without protection and have not gotten preg. My dr. told my husband he wanted a semen sample to test him and he said he had 2 children from a previous marriage. The dr. asked " How old are they? " Wes said " 10 and 12 " then my dr. said " Things can change. " If my husband is okay then they will work on me. He said " 40% of why you can't have children is the men. " I guess I am playing the waiting game. ( > > , > > > > How did your doctor's apt. go yesterday? > > > > Nickey > > > >
Guest guest
, I, too, was diagnosed with a B/U after ultrasounds, many dr.s and even an HSG. After finding a good RE, he thought it was SU. Lap/Hyst confirmed this and my SU was resected this past fall and winter (it took two surgeries). It seems that since I have a wider and longer than normal uterus that also had a septum that was wide and more than 5 cm in length it is not uncommon to be misdiagnosed. SU is far more common than BU from what I've read and my RE has told me. A consultation with a specialist might be worth it just to be sure. Best of luck. --- angelhugs11 urmysunshine74@...> wrote: > Hi Everyone! My name is and I was > diagnosed with B/U 2 > weeks ago. Guest guest
Hi ; My name is , I live in Canada and was originally diagnosed as having a B/U. last January 05. I had 3 miscarriages last year ( I lost twins in the summer.) After the third m/c in Sept I went back to my family dr frustrated because my OB ( who was also a fertility specialist) basically said better luck next time. My MD sent me to McMaster Hospital in Hamilton ( teaching hospital) They did a 3D imaging and said I did not have a B/U but a S/U. She told me I would have never made it past 1st trimester (my septum was thick and took up a lot of space at the top) I had resection lap/hyst done Dec 08/05. I was on 6weeks of hormones and had a balloon cathader for 7 days. I have a post op appt. Feb 1st. I am very optomistic that the surgery is going to make a difference. My dr. checked everything else while she was in there and said everything is good. My whole point is get a second opinion about having a B/U. A lot of women get misdiagnosed. I had to suffer an entire year of frustration and heartbreak with my original diagnosis. Plus I am 36 years old and time is not on my side. If you have any other questions don't hesitate. I don't often post on the site but read it daily. The women on here are amazing!!! I was given some great advice here. Cheers and good luck! 36 m/c Feb/05 8wks m/c June/05 6.5wks 1st twin m/c July/05 10wks 2nd twin m/c Sept/05 5wks angelhugs11 urmysunshine74@...> wrote: Hi Everyone! Guest guest
Hi , I have been dx with b/u. My ob thought he saw something wrong on an ultrasound and then I had an MRI and HSG to confirm it. I have a very extreme case of it - so much so that I could tell myself while I was having the HSG. It is always good to get as many opinions as your insurance will allow you. The more information you have the better you can decide for yourself what your treatment should be. I am doing IVF now so they can place the embryo in one of the horns. Hopefully this will work and I'll get closer to full term. Best of luck, Becky BU preterm loss DS 2/4/05 m/c 5/27/
Guest guest
hi christine i join this thread a little late and haven't read any other replies so sorry if i repeat what others said ..... i'm 38 and i had been told i had a BU some 10 years ago - i had a 33 weeker in 7/01 (1st pg ever, quite uneventful until the sudden birth) and then i had 2 mc (6/04 and 1/05) - even the dr who performed the c/s with my preemie in 01 and 2001 and SAW my uterus wrote in the report i had a 'mild BU'. after my 2nd mc i just couldn't accept what drs were telling me anymore and went to see a reproductive endocrinologist (RE) - i had a HSG that showed a partial septum and 2 cavities but since that was NOT ENOUGH to diagnose either SU or BU i asked the dr for a laparoscopy/hysteroscopy to get an accurate Dx - i didn't want to have a MRI cause i had read here that it was inconclusive sometimes - so i had the lap/hyst 3/05 and dr found out i had a SU - he resected me twice (3/05 and 8/05) and i'm now on my 1st IVF cycle (cause i'm freaking about about my age and can't wait to get pg on my own) so, if there's any chance you can get a lap/hyst i'd go for that ....i was terrified of the general anesthesia but i had 2 surgeries so far and they were easy - i can send you my account of the 1st one anytime - please feel free to email me directly. best of luck gabi
