Greetings All:

I had my surgery on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving 2006 [11/22]. It was

scheduled for 1pm and finally started at 3:45 pm. My wife said the doc called

her at 6pm. I remember waking up around 10pm and getting to my room around

midnight. They let me " relax " and sleep most of the night. Thursday I

discovered they had sent me to the cardio floor and knew nothing about me.

Finally

around 8am the Fellow came in and said I was on the wrong floor, well he was

right, they knew nothing about the GASTRIC bypass! I didn't even start the

" program " until 4pm on Thursday. I walked every commercial and sipped between

walks. They kept me sitting up for at least 8 hours and at midnight let me back

in bed. At 7am Friday they were in there like gang busters and started working

me over again. By noon the doc came in and said I could go home if I wanted.

Since I lived 70+ miles away and on a Friday for my ride to drive across LA

I chose to stay another day. I walked out at noon on Saturday. My ride was so

nice, she stopped 10 minutes after picking me up at a Del Taco for LUNCH!

I ate ice chips and survived.

So depending on time of surgery I guess 2 nights and you are out!

I was in the hospital six days because I went into A Fib and then contracted

cellulitis as well in my right leg and we had to get that under control

before I could come home.

Re: How Many Days In The Hospital?

My surgery will be in Mexico and he will make me stay 6 days counting

the day of my surgery and day of my departure.

I'm glad though because I have to fly from San Diego to Mobile, then

ride home from Mobile to past Milton FL.

I only live 10 min from my hospital I had it at, but I was in for 2 days.

hospital. Can you drive to your home and hospital.

I'm staying 5 days, so I am glad since I'll be along way from home,

and can get some healing in before the jorney back.

My cousin was 2 hours from where she had her surgery, she stayed 2

days in the hsopital and sat up in the car all the way home without

any discomfort.

My doctor's assistant has advised me to bring an extra pillow just to

have in the room and to have on my journey back for clutching against

my stomach if I sneeze or whatever.

Hey Boy Kim - you should have told them you were Boy 's cousin and they

would have treated you like a celebrity (Cedars-Sinai is where the " stars " go).

How are you feeling today!

Jackie -=- I'm doing GREAT !! I started right back on my travel schedule 2

weeks after surgery by driving to Palm Springs for a conference, once I got the

hotel catering staff straight it was a good weekend. This week we have taken the

motorhome to Las Vegas, it's cold here but nice.

The second day at Cedar's I did get moved to the 8th floor suites, and boy are

they nice! Large rooms with 2 LCD TV's and a shower to kill for. Some of the

rooms did have private guards and wouldn't let anyone walk near them.

Maybe that's why I stayed another day?

Good New Year Wishes to you in CA and all a Happy Holiday!

Originally I was only supposed to be in the hospital the night of surgery

and the next night and then go home, but I unfortunately developed

cellulitis in my right leg and the stress from having a hear cath the day

before surgery and the GBS the day after sent my heart into A Fib.

I was in the hospital for six days.

I agree. Mine was first thing Monday morning. It was nice not having

to wait around and be all nervous. Of course I was the ONLY patient

that day. LOL!

Hi Tracey,

That was one nice thing about my surgery. I was the first one the morning I

had mine and by the time I was out of recovery, I was so out of it things

just did not matter and my wife was able to go and get stuff I needed from

the house that we had left and my mom stayed with me until she got back, but

I really had no clue that they were there anyhow.

Hi Cat, I had surgery on a Friday. I was the first patient of the day

and that is great because you don't have to think all day long about

the surgery and being hungry! Anyway and I came home on Sunday

afternoon. Good Luck! in CA
