2 day stress test?

Hi Everyone,

I had to have a stress test several years ago, when I weighed A LOT

LESS than I do right now, and I could barely do it then!

Right now my lungs are at a 60 percent functioning level and they

are " squished " to half their size, (because of my weight) according

to my pulmonologist. How am I gonna do a stress test when I can't

barely walk outside maybe 40-50 feet to the parking lot without being

out of breath?

I think I'm gonna call the cardiologist's office tomorrow and ask

them about that.

Like I've said before, the surgery doesn't scare me, but a lot

of " little " things do, like hearing about a 2 day stress test in

order to get cardio clearance.

Yes, I'm a nervous Nellie, about the small stuff but not about the

big stuff......yikes!

If anyone can suggest or do anything to help me feel better, please

give me some advice and I'll take it, I swear!

Hugs,

Cathy

waiting to have all my clearance tests done (starting next week

through Jan 16)

Cathy,

Did your doc say it was a nuclear stress test? If so, its done while

you're lying on a bed, hooked up to IV's and monitors. They give you

meds thru IV to make your heart think its exercising really hard and

your heart reacts to that. You're heart rate will speed up as if you

were running on a treadmill. I did have chest pains close to the end,

but was told that can happen, its all normal. You'll be watched very

carefully and a nurse will be by yor side at all times. And the

cardiologist is right in the room over seeing it all. Sometimes, you

don't even have to go back the next day. You'll be fine, its all part

of the prosess. Try not to worry to much about it, easier said than

done I know. It only takes about 2-3 hours. Most off that time is

registration and prep. Just be sure not to eat after midnite, or

they'll reschedule it. Hope this helps.

My stress test before my surgery was a chemical induced. They knew

there was no way to get me going on the treadmill, so my physician

ordered (I think it's called this) a nuclear stresstest. They give

you meds through an IV to induce your heart rate. Lasts about 10

minutes, then it's done.

Good Luck
