Hasbro (in RI) has a great pedi GI department. It's farther from

you than Boston. But if you're willing to go to Boston, you might

be willing to go an hour farther for a quicker appointment.

Also, have you and/or your primary care doc looked into any kind

of tele-medicine option with the Boston folks? Can a video-consult

be set up quicker? Would it be enough?

Her PCP could order the blood tests him/herself, that way you would have the results when you see the GI.

I just wanted to vent my frustration! My daughter (age 16) has finally agreed to be tested for Celiac Disease, and when our pcp tried to make a referral appt. today, they can't see her until Aug.29th!!!, because they are the only pediatric gastroenterologists in the area...the only option is to go to Boston. So I will. MY g.i. dr, who I really like, won't take patients under 18. I am going to call and beg tomorrow, for him to take her, but if he won't, then Boston, here we come! I am not waiting another 3 mos. This kid has enough on her plate right now, and can't continue to be 3 hrs. late for school every morning because she can't get out of the bathroom. Either we travel, or she'll just go gluten-free.

Thanks for letting me vent.

So come to Boston and I’ll meet you at PF Chang’s

for lunch!

But before you do that, get on the

cancellation list at the pedi GI office. I’ve never had to wait so long

when I’ve asked to be called to fill a cancellation.

And you could also have your pcp call the pedi GI to arrange for an appointment.

I had a similar problem...wasn't going to be able to get my son in for like a

month and a half. No way!! When my regular pediatrician called, we got in the

NEXT day! Hmmm......... Worth a shot. good luck.

Michele,

I don't think the blood tests would be relevant with her, because she has immeasurably low IgA to begin with... she receives plasma infusions (ivig) every 3 weeks for her cvid... i have selective iga deficiency, so they didn't bother to do the blood tests with me, either...just started with the egd....
