" Malting is a process, where grains are treated with warm water for a period of time, and then dried or concentrated; the result is the basis for the beer mash. I don't recall the exact process; in my homebrewing days I never advanced to malting the grains, working instead with commercial malt (either gooey liquid or dry). Normal beer is made from wheat or barley malt. If they are referring to Bards Tale beer, that's made from malted sorghum. -- n : jt@... http://jt-mj.net In the beautiful Finger Lakes Wine Country of New York State! Barley malt is a problem. Looks like some words were left out, perhaps rice or sorghum is the malted grain that particular brewery uses. ygg

Guest guest
> Thanks for the clarification. So malt is not a " thing, " it is only > a process. When we talk > about malt vinegar then, it's really malted [wheat/barley/whatever] > vinegar, is that right? > It's amazing to me that that's not made more clear. It sounds > like, eventually, we could > have GF malt flavoring, GF malt vinegar, etc., maybe even GF malted > milk balls!! > Thanks! > /isabelle > I'm pretty sure that when one hears " malt " in the US, it must be malted barley, unless otherwise stated. I could be wrong, naturally, but barley is the most common malt. Any grain can be malted. Real malt vinegar is vinegar made from malted barley and is definitely not gluten-free. ygg

Guest guest
, No I haven't heard of " Flybaby " ? In my life, I'm the type of person that if someone tells me " you CAN'T have that, or you CAN'T do that " I have this inner brat or whiney that says " oh yeah? just watch me....<insert devilish horns and grin> " lol. With CD and annatto in my life now, I HAVE to overcome that, thank goodness I'm a GI reactor and look at these things and go, nah not worth it. But I may have to look into Flybaby. Thanks for the tip. Angie > > > Angie, > > > That was said like a *true* Flybaby! Are you part of flylady.net? If not, > you may be interested!
