Guest guest
Kris, How proud I am of and for you for sticking up like that to your mom!! I can't believe she had the NERVE to even ATTEMPT to ASK that!! It was your decision, she should be happy with that. I don't think I could have been as calm as you were with her! Wow... Guest guest
We did not circumsize our son. We really hadn't made up our mind until I was in the hospital. Once we saw him we couldn't imagine making him go through that just so he would look " normal " what's that teaching him? That it's wrong to be different? We didn't want to start him off that way. Everyone in my family is just shocked we didn't do it, but hey he's not their son. It's an easy choice when you see the child in your arms for the first time. Guest guest
I'm sorry, I don't have any references for my statistics. That is just what my kids' pediatrician told me. In the first hospital where she did her residency, less than half of babies were circ'd, but overall across the US, around 60% are circ'd. I do know that the AAP changed their policy on this issue in 1999, and decided not to endorse routine infant circumcision. Maybe rates have fallen because of that? Guest guest
Hi Haley - How are you doing - other than your recent debate? I hope you are felling good and all is well with the pregnancy. I can tell you that I have one son and as you know we will be delivering on or about the same day with my second son. I opted to have my first son circumsized. I really did not think even once about it I just did it as it seemed the thing to do. I am doing the same with son #2. If I think about it I personally feel it will make him more like the other boys and I know my brother-in-law had to be circumsized when he was 12 years old and had much much much pain. why did he require the circumcision at 12 well he had a lot of problems with hygiene and then infection etc. I can't say what would best for you but I can tell you that iel was circumsized prior t ome even seeing his penis not done. He poor little was red and sore but it seemed not to even bother him once it was done. Just my two cents! > Okay, I know this debate has ensued on the board before. Guest guest
I have seen, helped, participated in, restrained, prepped, draped and placed the baby's many, many times and MOST do cry (so do I!!) Still, I had both my sons circ'd, mainly because of hygienic reasons, rather than religious or *to look like Dad* I have seen how horribly painful it is when men are adults and have seen, known, and felt pain before. Perhaps since babies haven't really had anything painful done to them, they can't associate it with *PAIN* as we can AFTER we know what it is.... make sense?? lol The babies don't cry for very long (5-10 minutes tops) and you can generally request Tylenol be given 30 minutes before the procedure. There is generally just one or two drops of blood and with proper care, nearly zero risk of infection (*note- WITH PROPER CARE*) Sheila
