The first thing I would want to know is if you are on any meds?

Sometimes they can cause the problems you are having with your

stomach. You say you are working with a case manager, does that mean

a diabetes educator or not?

Thyroid problems can cause some of these things too. It's important

that you are going to see an endo. They can often pinpoint something

others miss and order different tests. Make a list of all of these

symptoms and take copies of your other blood work to him so he knows

what has been checked and what to look for. Big meals alone can cause

problems for diabetics because we might not be able to digest the food

properly or quick enough. No energy can also be from thryoid or even

just too many simple carbs with a meal or even just high blood sugar.

It's kind of amazing at all the problems high blood sugar can cause.

There are so many endocrinological things that are interreacted.

Sorry, i dont have a

I wasn't expecting a definate answer, just people experiences (if they

had any) to maybe give me some ideas to bring up. I am type 1, on

insulin only right now. I hope this isn't stress related, I haven't

been feeling stressed really. Well, I've been feeling stressed lately,

but only because I've been sick for so long and want to feel normal!

Thank you for your reply.

Just insulin right now. My doctor had me taking pepcid for awhile,

then prilosec when the pepcid didn't help, thinking maybe the cramps

were an ulcer. I stopped those since they didn't do anything.

I suppose it's probably the same thing. I go in once a week or every

2 weeks and she downloads my meter readings and helps me adjust my

insulin so we can figure out what I amounts I need for the best

control.

> Thyroid problems can cause some of these things too.

When I read the symptoms of low thyroid, I thought tthat had to be

what was wrong with me. My doctor ordered 2 thyroid blood tests and

both came back normal. I know it is still possible that something

may be wrong there, but it just doesn't seem as likely since the

tests were normal. I was actually kind of hoping that would be what

my problem was, seems relatively easy to fix.

Thank you for your ideas and help!

Ask your dr for the actual numbers on your thyroid test. For years I had

symptoms of low thyroid functioning, but all the tests came back " normal. "

Finally we decided to treat it anyway and I am much better. It seems they are

rethinking what is a " normal " range, and some of us actually need an extra

boost. It's rather like not being able to utililize insulin properly. It's

there, but we can't use a normal amount. Maybe you want to discuss it with your

dr and ask about some of the new studies.

except for the drop in blood pressure, light headedness, and raise in pulse

you are describing me!!!!

I have too many things wrong with me to be believed and still the drs

aren't able to really figure anything out. I have learned to treat the

symptoms as much as the drs will let me and hope that they understand and

will work with the scenario that I have developed a great mind/body

connection and believe me when I tell them what is wrong with me. Over the

past 5 years or so I have had so many tests I think I'm radioactive already

(LOL)...

ok, here goes for you to compare to:

I have fibromyalgia which started about 1992. Major chronic pain, mucsle

cramps/spasms, loss of strength and balance. With this comes a lot of

various secondary issues that vary from person to person. Almost all of us

develop some sort of sleeping disorder. I don't go into REM sleep when the

growth hormone is released to repair my muscles. I used to wake up about

every hour and a half to 2 hrs. this is called major sleep deprivation. We

seem to sleep but we don't get the healing rest other people get.

Then I developed something called neutropenia which is a lack of neutrophils

in the white blood count which fight internal bacteria. I am now on meds

for that and a side effect is a boost in energy level even tho' the hem/oncs

haven't studied it so they don't believe it.

In 1998 the neutropenia got bad enough to try and find out why I have it so

we did: I have a chronic (not gonna die from it) leukemia called Large

Granular Lymphocyte Leukemia. Some people have it and never do anything to

get rid of it or try because it doesn't seem to bother them and luckily I'm

one of them.

About 2003 I developed degenerative disc disease (DDD) which forced me to

sell my farm and move into town. Yuck. anyway, I have heart palpitations,

I get dizzy since I was young when bending over and then standing up, I've

had a thorough cardiac work up this year and nothing is wrong.

Last Sept (2005) I ended up in the ER with the same sort of stomach problem

you described. It was so bad I couldn't take the pain or the accompanying

nausea. I was given meds for both and started on an IV too. they kept me

overnight and my stomach 'settled' enough for me to go home but it has been

bothering me ever since. I've done an endoscopy 3 weeks ago and the only

thing found was a small hiatal hernia and gastritis! Big deal. What about

the doggone cramping? sigh....

I have a colonoscopy scheduled for this Fri (very very big sigh) because I

am tender there too.

All tests come back negative (hope this one does too). How frustrating.

Even being told I am 'pre-diabetic' or 'diabetic' and diet controlled since

Jan isn't a black and white thing for me. Nothing is wrong but nothing is

right.

*you are not alone*. there are many people like us. We just have to keep

trying to figure out what to do to have as normal a life as possible. the

ultrasounds are the first non-invasive step. I took them too. It is the

right place to start I guess....

good luck, and if you want to email me privately, feel free to do so.

this stuff is somehow all related as far as I am concerned, right down to

the diabetes stuff I am dealing with now.

Thank you everyone for your ideas. I think I will ask the endo to

consider my thyroid further. I forgot to mention in my first post that

my hair has turned to straw latley too, which I know is another

thyroid symptom. The test did include TSH and free T4. The TSH was

1.5, normal range said it should be .2 to 5.5. The Free T4 was 1.2,

normal says .8 to 1.7.

Oh, and I'm 26, so shouldn't be experiencing menopause yet. Although

my mom says she started going through it around 30, so you never know.

Have you ever looked up PCOS? That's something a lot of younger women

have too. Not sure if that fits or not but if you haven't ever read

about it you might want to. It's called Polycystic Ovarian Disorder.

Some of the symptoms are similiar to thyroid problems.

That's 1 of the theories, but I have no reason to be that dehydrated. I

have no vomiting or diarhea and I am drinking, maybe not as much as I

should, but there are fluids going in. I'm wondering if there's some

medical thing that could cause me to be getting excessively dehydrated.

The fluids also only seem to help for a short while, and drinking more

water doesn't seem to prevent anything.
