Guest guest
Hi, I have been on Tamoxifen since 6/16 and have only had 1 hot flash. I even asked the Dr if the pills were working because I have only had 1 - she promised they are. My flash came about a month after starting them. The only other side effect I experienced was a little dizziness at first, nothing else. Shari Tamoxifen side affects I am premenopausal and started taking Tamoxifen one week ago. I am really nervous about the possible side affects and just wondering how long it takes before they set in, especially hot flashes. Just hoping I may be one of the lucky ones who doesn't get them. Guest guest
I think it depends on whether you're pre or post menopause on the hot flashes and whether or not you still have your ovaries. I my self had a full hysterectomy some years ago and now that I take tamoxifen or anything else I have tried greatly increases the hot flashes. but everyone is different. Guest guest
I still have my ovaries, did have a partial hyst few years ago (uterus) but still - only 1 hot flash to date. Please correct me if i am wrong, but I understood that the Tamoxifen was being given to pre menopausal and the others for post men. And, yes, everyone is different. But, there is hope. Guest guest
Everything I have read also suggest that tamoxifin is for pre-m. I think that they (the onc.) just wants me on something I can tolerate for time being. I have only been taking it for a month. The arimidex and aromisin I just could not handle. I call my oc. next week to talk with him. I need to ask more question and ask about femera. Guest guest
Hi Theresa. It seems Tamoxifen is given to pre. peri and post menopausal women with BC.I had it when I was pre, with the primary (only for a short time as it caused such floods of bleeding though) and had it when I was first diagnosed with the metastases when I was post menopause. I have been through the range of AI's. aromasin, femara, faslodex and arimidex and now will start to take tamoxifen again as I responded well to it before when in the post phase. Whatever you take in this line of medication is going to reduce the estrogen from the cancer cells' intake, and that ultimately throws you into a sort of menopause and you may get the accompanying menopausal symptoms but it really is reducing the estrogen that fuels the cancer that is so helpful. Starved of it's fuel line helps prevent spread and growth. The AI's (aromatase inhibitors) work in slightly different ways to prevent estrogen getting to the cancer cells but can cause aches and pains and joint stiffness, raised blood pressure and other side effects but I feel we have to bear these in order to hold back the cancer. Far from easy, I know but we have such little choice of simple drug management after surgery, chemo and/or radiotherapy. I actually look for the side efefcts, especialy the hot flushes, as they tell me I am knocking back estrogen. There are many methods of controlling the swaets and hot flushes, all menopausal type ideas can be looked at as well as things you can dofor yourself, my favourite is wet wipes in the fridge, cotton clothing/underwear, adjust bed covers, bathing/showering and time of bathing, eating hot foods and spices (or not, maybe) drinking gallons of water etc. And the most side effects seem to occur in the first few weeks then tail off so give it a bit longer before changing treatment, maybe there's is a surfeit of circulating estrogens in the system that need to be removed and when you get to a certain level things pan out a bit better. Hope this helps you come to a decision about your treatment. LOL Velvet x (UK) Theresa Towner wrote: Everything I have read also suggest that tamoxifin is for pre-m. Guest guest
Thanks for the info. I guess its like you say. You don't have to take anything but If you want to improve your chances of survival without a recurrence in the near feature you must do something. I seem to tolerate the tamoxifen better than any others i have tried to far. I am going to try and stick it out. tt. velvet girling wrote: Hi Theresa. Guest guest
I have been reading many things about Tamoxifen and I am wondering how things will go as I will probably start taking it in January. Still have my radiation to go through. ne > > I am premenopausal and started taking Tamoxifen one week ago.
