That is so strange that you have mentioned this. sometime but not to often I

have had these strange sensations. It was kinda of wierd because the doc all

told me that there would be no sensations at all. I had it all removed w recon

and every once in a while this happens to me. It kinda hurts at times. Its

probably just muslcle feeling coming back after surgery. I'll have to talk to my

doc when i see him next month at my checkup. I get my radiance injections in my

newly reconstructed nipples next month. I am really excited. tt.

as well as itching and other strange feelings, I'm experiencing " phantom

nipple " sensations. Is this to be expected? If so, for how long? I

forgot to mention it to my doctor today.

The possibility of phantom nipple pains or 'feelings' was one of the things

listed on the mastectomy info sheet the doc sent home with me from the

hospital. Sometimes it almost feels like a let-down, as when milk starts to

flow when you are nursing. Not painful really, just a weird sensation. and

sometimes my nipples itch, lol. Maddening, because first, there is nothing

to scratch (and I shouldn't be scratching there anyhow), and second because

I can't locate any spot on me that corresponds to the sensation.

It's been a week and a half since my surgery, and it looks like the drains

will come out tomorrow. Can't wait, except, it just seems like it will

hurt. I figure it will be over quickly, anyhow.

Hi Shari,

I had phantom pains in my breast after my masectomy (10 months ago). I

no longer have them, but due to chemo brain don't remember when I

stopped :-) I think I had the pains intermittenly for several months.

Hi Sandy,

I'd recommend taking some tylenol before you get your drains removed. I

found it very painful (and I'm pretty good at tolerating pain), but it

was very quick. Though other women say it didn't hurt at all. Your

mileage may vary :-)

That is a weird feeling, isn't it. Sometimes my left nipple (the one I

haven't got) itches; sometimes my side (which is completely numb since the

surgery) itches, and even if I scratch it I can't feel the scratch. And if

I drink something really cold, the cold goes straight to my left nipple

instead of down the middle where it used to go. And when I (bother, I don't

know a polite word for it) s**t I get a small sharp stabbing pain in my numb

side. All very peculiar, all part of life's rich tapestry. <G>
