Guest guest
Beautiful imagery Esther. Thank you—I’ll join you in the overhaul. I’ve been doing something similar in the grocery store. I peer into other people’s carts and see how much unhealthy food they’re buying. I let myself see the processed junk food and white flour for the poison it is. (and I check my own cart to make sure it’s mostly wholesome.) How about noticing libraries, yoga studios, chiropractors, bookstores, ….um, there’s a start. Threw my back out last week and really needed to have noticed a chiropractor before then. Found one, feel better. Laurie lbilyeu@... Guest guest
My radar is adjusted to notice other peoples carts also. More so in the health food sections. My radar is always scanning for GF items, including in others' carts. Never know, might find a new local GF friend that way!! I've been diagnosed for 24 yrs, so my personal radar has been tuned to the GF station for quite along time. Never really took notice the Bertucci's out there, etc. But we are new first-time home owners, so I'm just now adjusting my radar to the Lowe's & Home Depots. As well as local health food stores in our new area. And coffee shops! Eventually, we want to open our own gourmet coffee shop with GF breakfast pastries! Our area definitely needs a nice sit down cafe. The only place around is Dunkin Donuts (not quite the cafe atmosphere for a weekend morning retreat with the hubby) Esther, you're awesome. Where do you come up with these ideas? You always give a boost to this group! Love your outlook, keep up with your new radar blips! ~ in NH > > Beautiful imagery Esther. Guest guest
Asian and Hispanic markets are starting to blip for me. Very cool shopping experience!! I have also been doing some cart snooping and I've noticed a remarkable difference in the contents between the regular grocery store and the international markets. Carts filled with prepackaged and frozen stuff vs fresh veggies, fruits, meats, and cheeses. I wouldn't even know what to do with most of it....yet. Lori > > Beautiful imagery Esther. What might work in that case would be to hook up with a good regular baker in the area who is highly regarded, and make their products available in your place - this way, you can manage the baked goods storage to avoid contamination issues. Guest guest
What sorts of cool GF things are you able to find at Hispanic markets? I haven't had many opportunities to shop at this kind of market before, but now that I'm in CA they are everywhere. What should I look for? (BTW I don't eat meat so that aspect of it is less relevant to me) TIA We went to the San Flea Market yesterday and there was all kinds of cool produce bits, but because we had other plans we didn't buy anything... > > Asian and Hispanic markets are starting to blip for me. Guest guest
The produce section is usually what catches my eye. I have no idea what to do with some of the stuff I see there, but I am trying to learn. I have tried the jicama and plantains which were the most familiar to me, and I want to try cactus next. There are also some more 'exotic' fruits. I like to try at least one new thing or recipe each time I go. Even the ordinary produce is cheaper that at my regular grocery store. The other thing that I've noticed are all of the corn products. Finding safe corn tortillas (white, yellow, blue) is more the rule than the exception. They also have them pre-fried and packaged for tostadas and tacos. (I really am intimidated by frying.) Masa, corn flour, polenta/corn grits, etc.. I also really like the dried spices and chiles and the variety of canned shortcuts (beans, peppers, queso fresco, etc..). And pre- made sofrito which can be put into most anything for flavor. Happy shopping! Lori > > > > Asian and Hispanic markets are starting to blip for me. Very cool > > shopping experience!! >
