Guest guest
I have been a member of this group for a few weeks now, but havent posted because I have been in and out of hospital for a while. My story is.... My name is Margaret and I am 42, married and mother of 2 children...8 year old girl and 13 year old boy. I live in New Zealand. 2 years ago I found a lump in my right breast, had all the mammograms, ultrasound and biopsys, and was told the lump was benign. I had the choice of having it removed. Because I was busy with work, I didnt worry about it. This year we have move to a new place, and because I am not working, I have a bit of time on my hands, so decided to have lump removed. Saw a surgeon, who said have a mammogram before lump removal to make sure nothing else would have to be removed. The mammogram and ultrasound showed up calcifications on same side. (NOTE: Travelling for hospital treatment takes 3 hours one one) Went back and had biopsy, which showed DCIS. (was told would have radiation) Had surgery (lumpectomy - also original lump was removed), results for that DCIS area showed a small cancer. (now would still have radiation with posiible chemo) So more surgery to have a clearer margin removed and some lymph nodes removed too. Went back to hospital for that, and found I had a tumour in my ovary (had a hysterectomy 6 years ago...ovarys were left). Had CT scans and bone scan to make sure the 2 areas weren't related or rule out any spread. Surgery put off for a week, so ovary and breast could be done together. 2 weeks ago I had the surgery (tumour and ovarys removed, and clearer section on breast and some axilla nodes removed) and am now recovering. Results were the ovary tumour was benign, and that the lymph nodes are clear. So now I have to see an oncologist to see if I have chemo as well as radiation. I am and was mentally prepared for the radiation which means living away form home for a month or so, but it was the fact that I might have chemo that threw me. (it was an awful time finding I had a small cancer and then when the ovary tumour came along too). In that waiting time, I managed to knit myself a couple of hats for when I lose my hair. But now the fact I may not have chemo is really good, but I wont count my chickens just yet. Im taking one day at a time. Now a question for anyone that could help me. The drain is removed from under my arm...for the lymph. The doctor said there may be a small build up of fluid, which may get hard and have to be drained with a needle. But that introduces the risk of infection. I am doing all the arm movement exercises, but is there any thing I could do, so the area will naturally drain and I dont have to have it drained by a needle. Or is it just something that happens Any ideas would be most helpful. I have got so much great info from this group so far as I have been lurking Regards Margaret in New Zealand
Guest guest
I pretty much spent the summer playing " The Waiting Game " : ) Needle biopsy July 3rd - got results July 6th; Lumpectomy/SLNB July 19th - results July 26th; Mastectomy July 27 - all clear : ) report on August 7th - receptor report (took FORever!) on August 31st; Port on September 11th - first chemo September 12th...I would have to say that a lot of the waiting was probably due to my living in " Bumblefart, Alabama " (ha!), however, since I have been awesomely blessed with excellent docs I really can't complain (don't want to, either...it's annoying : ) Blessings to all who live in the town(s) of Podunk... - Jen : ) On Thu, 28 Sep 2006 18:07:58 -0700 (PDT) Rhonda Karl writes: > Pathology, like for biopsy can be 5-7 days in my neck of the > woods. Guest guest
, I was reading your post about Tamoxifen and the hot flashes. I am on Arimidex and I find that taking 2,000 mg. of evening primrose oil in the evening when I take the Arimidex really helps. It is in the vitamin supplement section of stores. Although I am post menopausal so there could be a difference as you are producing more estrogen. Try it- What can it hurt? Guest guest
Hi , I have a little less than 100 pounds to lose. I had my surgery on 5/2 and have lost 67 pounds. I feel great and I can eat almost anything I want in small quantities. I still do a protein drink each day, usually for breakfast, I drink it on my way to work. It takes me 40 minutes to get it all down. It's hard to imagine that I am so close to my goal weight. Kathy 220/153/
Guest guest
That's a relief. These expanders are uncomfortable. I can't lay on my side and sometimes it feels like I'm getting pinched on the inside. I couldn't tell if the hard spots were the ports or scar tissue. thank you for easing my mind. Re: Hello Hi , The implants will feel very different from the expanders. The port in the expander is very uncomfortable. Sometimes they felt like they were getting hung up on the muscle. That's how it felt anyway to me. The doc said it was just the muscle and tissue healing and getting feeling back. I still have a lot of numbness, tingling and itching in the incision areas but doc said in time it will lesson. tt karen wilson <rabbitmoonmagic@ yahoo.com> wrote: Hi, I've just joined the group and wanted to let everyone know a little bit about myself. I was diagnosed in April of this year with DCIS,LCIS, and ILC. I had went in for my annual mammogram in February ( right after the Friends of the Library Book sale) and they called me back for a compression view. Then I was told I needed to contact a surgeon. My GYN helped me to contact a surgeon. The surgeon felt I was to young and it probably wouldn't be nothing but we had a biopsy done. I knew it was cancer from the picture I saw when I went back for the compression view. After the biopsy results came back the surgeon told me the results I was like " Okay what's next? " . I went to meet my oncoligist and read up on what I had and my options. The surgeon in order to try and get a clear margin had basically done a lumpectomy and I still did not have clear margins. So I knew in order to get the best chance I needed a mastectomy. And because my mother had died of ovarian cancer and my uncle died from prostate cancer and because I had ILC, I decided to get a bilateral mastectomy. The plastic surgeon was able to do a nipple sparing bilateral mastectomy becasue of where the cancer was located. I was very lucky, I had no lymph node involvement and because of the mastectomy I didn't need radiation. Now I'm just waiting for the middle of December to have my permanent inplants put in. the only problem I'm having with the expanders is that I am always feeling them. I'm hoping that changes with the silicone implants. I'm sorry if this is long but it has been awhile since I've shared all of this. My husband was with me through everything (surgeries and appointments) but he is ready for things to be back to normal. thanks for listening. ____________ _________ _________ _________ _________ _________ _ Do you Yahoo!?
