Guest guest
Hi Jude, I'm trying to remember...I remember discomfort, but what kind of pain are you experiencing? I do remember going to the ER because I felt like I was having trouble breathing. It took a few weeks to get use to the port. I was so aware of it in my neck and chest. Where was your port placed? I think if you are thin you are more aware of it. I don't think of it now. take care,
Guest guest
It will get better! I found it was painful for a few days, then uncomfortable. Now I'm used to it, but still aware of it. > > I just got my port put in yesterday. Guest guest
Yes it gets better. Took a while to get over intial tenderness but have had it in since August and barely notice it anymore unless I bump it. I wish they would have placed it a little further from my bra strap area though. Hang in there. The port helps a lot IMHO. Sue Ellen, TX > > I just got my port put in yesterday. Guest guest
I got my port in on Tuesday and my first chemo that Friday, and when the tech who was about the stick the needle in said it would be the most painful experience, it was. The pain didn't go away, tho it didn't look infected -- and I have a high threshold of pain. After another week, I talked to my oncologist, who said it could be infected internally, tho she didn't think so. Nonetheless, she prescribed me an antibiotic and within a few days, it was feeling better, and has felt better since. It's not that constant pain that I felt until the antibiotics kicked in and I can now move my arm (which is my dominant arm) pain free. Even sleeping on my stomach barely bothers me. So if it doesn't get better on its own soon, I'd suggest having a conversation with your doctor. Good luck. Cheryl > > I just got my port put in yesterday. I've had mine in for 2 months, and actually this is the second one I've had. I've never had any pain with mine, just a prick when the needle for the chemo is inserted. If it still is painful I'd talk to the surgeon who put it in because it should NOT hurt.

I was fortunate to have 2 weeks for it to heal and the soreness to wear off before my first Chemo Tx Dec 1st. I do have tape marks(i was told to use the clear waterproof surgical bandage, so that I can monitor for infection.Waterproof bandages, really do a number on the skin! When she inserted my needle it sounded like a button going " pop(when you pushed in),pop(when she released) " Oh, did your nurse numb the spot? She sprayed something like lidocaine after cleaning the area with alcohol and i didn't feel a thing...
