Post Surgery

New to the group. I had a double masectomy Aug 10 and nodes removed

under my right arm on Sept 6. I have expanders in my chest and I am

so very uncomfortable. I am building up fluid where the nodes use to

be and I go twice a week to have it drained. I am told this will stop

in its own time. I feel like I am carrying another person under my

arm. Also, does anyone out there have feet and hands that hurt real

bad from time to time.

I, too, had a bi-lateral mastectomy with tissue expander reconstruction. I had

nodes removed under one arm, but thankfully have not experienced the problems

you have.

The initial expansion procedures weren't bad, but as my tissue expanded they

became much more painful. I finally said " uncle " and decided enough was enough.

I just had the temporary implants replace with the " permanent " ones last week

and the surgery was a piece of cake, although my surgeon failed to remove the

excess skin under my arms (a whole other story). My prayers are with yoiu.

Hello there, my name is Chantal, I had bilateral mastectomy on 09/11/06

and ex panders placed, but I have 2drains one on each side. I didn't have lymph

node removed. I agreed with you, the ex panders are very uncomfortable on my

chest, tightness, discomfort especially when I go to bed at night. Thursday was

worst when the Dr filled my ex panders with saline, make sure to take something

for pain before you get yours filled. Muscle relaxer helped me a lot.

I am just curious to know if you Had drains placed after surgery or not?

because drains would help collect fluid from your surgical site.

you are in my prayers, God bless.

Chantal,

Sounds as if your mastecomy went fairly well. Yes, the drains are a pain to

deal with, but thankfully only stay in a while (hopefully!) I had four expander

filling episodes, the last being the most uncomfortable. I had excess skin

under both arms which the surgeon would take care of. Unfortunately, he must

not have been listening (surprise) and didn't remove the excess skin when I

underwent the permanent replacement surgery last week. I believe he was waiting

until (he assumed) I underwent nipple reconstruction. DO NOT let the Dr. out of

the office until he answers ALL of you questions to your understanding. Take

care,
