My Jake was referred to a neurosurgeon at 2.5 months old. The neuro

ordered a CT scan, which Jake had at 3 months old, then we saw the

neurosurgeon at 4 months, and he told us his sutures looked fine

(they weren't fusing early), so it was just the tort that caused the

plagio, and that he wouldn't need a helmet, it would work itself

out. So we let it go, but his head shape wasn't improving that much

even after his tort was worked out, and at each ped visit, I would

ask them about it, but they would say it would work itself out. I

had basically given up on it, even though his forehead bossing and

ear assymetry were still really bothering me. Then a few weeks ago,

I saw another mom at school who just had her son banded and it

started the whole process up again (that's when I found these

message boards, and they were such a help!). I ended up taking Jake

to another ped to get his opinion, and he wrote me a script, but we

also saw a craniofacial surgeon for another " expert " opinion. He

actually said that he wouldn't band him, but when I told him I

wanted to band him because at least I could say I tried, he wrote me

a script too and said he would defer to the orthotist to see if they

thought it would be worth it at his age. We consulted with both

StarBand and DocBand, and they both said they would band him, but CT

has a greater history of banding older babies and they came across

as more confident that we would see results (just a question of how

much), so we're going with them. The therapist at CT yesterday said

that sometimes it looks better for insurance purposes if a

specialist writes the script, so I'm glad I got both.

I wish I had gotten this process started in November, when I could

have enrolled for my flexible spending account! But the open season

closed for me already, so I missed my window. So much for me

thinking we wouldn't need it....
