Hi ,

I live all the way across the country, so you won't see me with my

helmeted baby, but I have the same question :-) We saw tons of babies

this weekend. It was really hot so we spent time at the mall and went

to Golden Gate Park (we don't have A/C).

When I'm online I feel like lots of babies have this problem, but I

have never seen another baby (besides ours) with a band. It does

frustrate me because we get so many looks and questions. Our daughter

is very outgoing (for a 7 mo old) and smiles at everybody so lots just

smile back, but we get a lot of questions too. I would love to see

another baby when I am out. Even after she is done with her band if I

ever see another mom with a baby in a band I'm going to make sure she

knows we did it too! I'll be so thrilled one day when I do run into

someone.

Hang in there,

Yes, we're out here!

I've actually only seen one other baby wearing a band during the 2 1/2 months

Devlan has

had his DOC Band. We crossed paths at the San Diego Zoo - and it turned out

that she

was from Texas! What I do find is a lot of people who have a nephew or a friend

or

someone's little sister from daycare who has had a helmet, and they have often

come up

to me to offer support and encouragement.

Remember, the bands are only worn for a few months in most cases, so it's not

crazy to

have missed the time the baby was actively " crowned " .

I hope people don't take their babies helmets off in public! They could be

missing out on

precious growth and correction. If there is any extra time that we take our

son's helmet off

it's to cuddle and kiss his little head at home.

I live in an area (San , CA) where there is a relatively high number of

banded babies.

The center where we take our son to says they fit about 30 babies a month! Where

are they

all!!! I have not seen one, except for when we are at an appt.

I was thinking the other day that it would be helpful if a celebrity had a child

who needed a

helmet. It greatly heighten awareness and people wouldn't stare at us so

perplexed

everywhere we go...lol

i live in nyc (manhattan) and we just picked up our band yesterday.

when we got home I put our daughter in the bjorn and took a walk and

was so surprised by all the stares - and we only went one block!

Standing on line at CVS was the worst. I was waiting in the middle

line and no one was shy about turning to stare. I haven't seen any

other banded babies in the past few months since i have become more

aware of bands. i guess most nyc-ers haven't seen many banded babies

either.

i wasn't feeling so great after seeing her in it for the first time -

the walk certainly didn't help.

even with all the stares, i wouldn't take the band off - the time in

it is too precious and important.

We never take the helmet off in public. I am usually blissfully

unaware of any stares, but my husband still notices them. I have yet

to see another banded baby, but we get lots of comments from people

whose niece, grandkid etc wears or did wear a band. We just returned

from Europe visiting my parents. Most people over there thought it was

a biking helmet.

,

Hang in there! Pretty soon you will forget that your baby even has

the helmet on and will be thinking everyone is staring because you

have such a cute baby! You are right. The time our babies have in

their helmets is too precious and important to remove them just

because we do not want to look different in public. My twins had so

much trouble in the beginning that once they had adapted to the

helmets, I have been hesistant to take them off. (Of course we do

for the 1 hour in the evening for bath and cleaning.)

I have not seen anyone else here in Tennessee with them on either.

But when we visited St. Louis over the July 4th week, I saw a baby

with one on at the Science Center Museum. My oldest sons said " hey,

that baby has a helmet like Hayden and Lane. " I think it helped him

to see that. We were just with our older children at that time

(twins with grandma), but I felt like talking with the mom about the

helmets to let her know there are others out there. My husband said

that would be silly, so I didn't.

Hi ! I grew up in Queens and I'm there once a week at my mom's!

So you may see me around! My son is in his 3rd helmet and this

time around I even forget that it's on. I too have never seen another

baby with it except of course at CT. But I've run into mom's of

graduates and that's always reassuring. They come right up and say we

had a Doc Band! So funny. I'm sure I'll be doing the same!

WOW

you've gotten so many replies that I haven't even read them all.

All I can tell you is be proud of your banded baby if that is what

you are going to do. If someone asks, tell them and if someone

stares either ignore them or let them know. I have made the exp

that starting people are only curious. Most of them don't' mean to

be rude. :o)
