Guest guest
Fruit is sugar. You are overloading on sugar. Caffeine raises Insulin. High Insulin leads to cells becoming Insulin Resistant and fat storage. High Insulin will make you hungry after meals. High Insulin will give you an 'apple' shape body with a thick waist. If you are Insulin Resistant / Pre Diabetic ( proven by 5 hour GTT with a graph of Glucose & Insulin every hour ) then you need to lower your Insulin levels and 'level them off' during the day. The mini meals of protein/ complex carbs ( ratio 50:50 is a good mix) will. Would you rather eat your present diet and get Diabetes later? However..... you may need good Thyroid meds too. > >> > > >> > Controlling hypoglycemia? > >> > > >> > How does one do that? > >> > > >> > ~E:) > >> > >
Guest guest
Actually that makes a lot of sense... for many of us our digestive systems are out of kilter.. I know for me that when I was BAD hypo my gut didn't move stuff through as it should... that often leads to messed up bowels too... anywhere from constipation to diarrhea... juicing takes out one of the steps involved in the digestion process making it easier for our bodies to break down the juice for nutrients and available energy calories.... When we can't get the food to break down to the level needed for us to absorb the nutrients properly we end up with getting more calories then nutrients and then the nutrient deficiency triggers hunger which means that we eat more.... I'm not so sure that I agree with Bob about us going to bed a bit hungry.... low levels of energy (blood sugar) means a drastic decrease in conversion...since most of the healing and growing that our bodies do is during sleep... I, personally, prefer having a bit of a snack late if I'm feeling a bit hungry.... ...that's just me though.... Soooo I started juicing my food-at least once a day. For me, that was the ticket. I lost almost 50 pounds-I still have a little to go, but even if I dont lose much more, I'll be satisfied with it. And I have to admit, sometimes I was a little hungry-but I've heard from "Bob" on Oprah, that when you are a little hungry before bed, that means your body is getting rid of fat. So dont get up and get something to eat. lol I have heard that juicing your food raises your metabolism-dont know if thats true-just know it worked Hope that helps
Guest guest
HI Aussie Jane, Not sure who your response is to but let me jump in. I eat TONS of fish, protein, and good carbs but I also love fruit and veggies, eating no processed or fried foods -- I have wonderful results with my thyroid meds – good T3F, T4F, TSH and high energy with great sleep and mood... My waist is not thick — it’s my butt, thigh and hip area — always has been — but I used to be able to lose weight AS SOON as I dieted and those diets were always fruit, veggie and protein diet. I really don’t think fruit is my prob, but carbs are — as I mentioned AS SOON as I add carbs back into my diet – even at 1200 calories, I gain poundage — I remove them and VOILA!~ the weight comes off 2 to 3 lbs a week but then I feel weak and tired and starving -- That’s my dilemma — the whole sugar thing came in cuz another poster asked if or I were insulin resisitant... Doctors and nutritionists have told me I have metabolic dysfunction in that I can’t process carbs.... But when I cut the carbs I feel like crap...plus I get cravings. Sue Fruit is sugar. Guest guest
I have no ill effects after eating strawberries. They are so low in calories and low carb and good to taste as well. I run my own biz so I have a lot deadlines and stressors and find my vitamin C needs constant replacing — I love fruits and veggies and despise grease and sugary foods. I don’t generally eat after 7 pm at all -- our dinner is 6 pm and then I may have fruit but you’re right on the carbs, cuz if I eat my light no-butter popcorn at night I will gain a pound that week As far as coconut oil, I won’t go there as of yet— too much controversy over that and I have talked to doctors, nutritionists and a biologist and also done a lot of research and reading. I know Ray Peat swears by it but others are very much against it when you have adrenal overdrive like I do... Sue Have you tried coconut oil ? That's supposed to help hypos lose weight - check it out on Shomon's site. And it does depend when you eat those carbs. The rule should be absolutely no carbs after 7 pm. Also, there are lots of other hormons involved in weight gain - HGH (Human Growth Hormon) for example. Perhaps you should have them all checked - if your thyroid hormone is off, so could others be. And finally, go easy on the strawberries - they are goitrogens, too - have you never noticed any ill effects after eating them ? Guest guest
Sue, I was like you too - could handle the high protein diets when younger but not now. But also stack weight on with carbs. And also crave them. The answer for me ( and many others) is to eat 50:50 balance of protein with healthy carbs. Strawberries with cream, apple with walnuts etc Its all about keeping your Insulin low. If you have high Insulin you also store fat. And after years and years of hard work - your Pancreas will stop working .... The book I have found that works for me is 'The Insulin Resistance Diet' by Hart & Grossman and believe me - have tried them all ! LOL.'Hypoglycemia for Dummies' is another good one.I am on the Reactive HypoG list as well. I started there but have now found my Thyroid meds help more. You may just need to change your diet a little to improve a lot ..Its not good to cut out carbs completely. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/reactivehypo/ Jane > > > > > > > > > > > Fruit is sugar. Guest guest
The sugar in fruit is fructose. It's glucose that is dangerous. > >Reply-To: The_Thyroid_Support_Group >To: The_Thyroid_Support_Group >Subject: Re: carbs, fat and hypo >Date: Sat, 05 Aug 2006 21:19:11 -0000 > >Fruit is sugar. Guest guest
HI Aussie Jane, Thanks for the info — I do have a blood sugar stick monitor I use and I am always in good range —all my glucose tests have been good, even the fasting ones-- It seems to be the carbs — I do mix carbs with protein i.e. Handful of nuts with an apple, cheese with 1/2 english muffin, etc... I really eat so healthy it’s not funny and I enjoy it and don’t’ go hungry or feel deprived – but I gain weight or don’t lose it— that’s the part that just blows my mind. I will check into the book you mention – thanks! Sue Sue, I was like you too - could handle the high protein diets when younger but not now. But also stack weight on with carbs. And also crave them. Guest guest
Nope, no cuke sandwiches...i am trying to sub out carbs, so I better not even try! Jut the vinegar and a sprinkle of raw sea salt. I use balsamic vinegar and they go fast — my 12 year old daughter loves ‘em! Sue Ya, did you ever make a sandwich out of cukes made that way? OHYA! Spiff jytdtp wrote: LOL, right? Man, how crazy am I that I can’t wait a night for some vinegar-y cucumbers...sounds SO funny when seen objectively!
