I find it odd too that a specialist would so adamently oppose one

type of helmet to another. I've heard of them recommending one over

the other, which is perfectly understandable, but never heard of the

script dictating who you went to. The specialist we saw had an

orthotist in the same hospital that used the StarBand and the script

just said " helmet therapy. " We ended up going to Cranial Tech and it

worked fine.

The insurance companies do confuse me though. I have BCBS of NC

Federal Empoyee Program and they list in our coverage a DOC Band,

but they are using the term as reference to a dynamic orthotic

cranial (DOC) device, and NOT the trademark/copyrighted version of

CT's DOCBand. So I don't know if there's confusion there or what,

but CT wasn't even in-network for us, so maybe there needs to be

some better distinction between the official term of a helmet or

something. It's just confusing all around.

Anyway, to answer your original question, a pediatrician can write

you a script if the specialist is not willing to amend theirs.

StarBands work great too, it's just a matter of getting an

experienced ortho, so I hope you get some more good feedback on your

specific location.
