Guest guest
Gloria, when I went to my diabetic nutritionist he told me to subtract fiber grams of 5 or above for net carb grams also subtract any sugar alcohol from the carb grams. Hugs, Re: MY FOOD DIARY FOR TODAY 1-22-06 Well, in the TOPS DINER they list some carbs. However, you can find the carbs on the nutrition labels. I believe that if it lists the fiber you subtract that and that will give you a net carb. Other wise if you need a little assistance you can contact: babshart@... she is always happy to help. Guest guest
sugar alcohol...a few years ago I binged and ate an entire sugar-free angel food cake with a high sugar alcohol content...I had so much gas and abdominal pain that I haven't gone near one since!!!!...apparently if it has sugar alcohol that translates into artifical sweetners my body can't handle. I am not kidding when I say that I was in pain...I can't even eat 1/2 cup of sugar-free/fat-free ice cream!! I don't really understand sugar alcohol anyway!! Thanks for the info - - Clara

Guest guest
Hey there Clara, Sugar alcohol is an artificial sweetener that is used instead of sugar. As you probably know, even though sugar grams are listed seperately on a nutrition label, your carb grams include the sugar grams also. That is one of the reasons that I, as a diabetic, count carbs closely. I don't eliminate but I do calculate them. I knew you should subtract the sugar alcohol from your total carb count, but I didn't know why it was different from regular sugar carbs. Never too old to learn, huh?? Guest guest
Hi Beth! I had a similar experience with sugar alcohols. However I didn't eat an entire angel food cake. Instead I ate an entire package of Stovers Sugar Free Turtle. I was so sick that night and the entire next day, I vowed to stay away from those. I believe they had like 18 grams of sugar alcohol in them or something. TOPS ((HUGS)), GLORIA "REMEMBER ~ YOU CONTROL THE FORK"

Guest guest
Eating too much of anything is not good for us. Sugar free chocolate can give you diareha (sp) if you eat too much also!
