Hi, I just completed chemo and had a double mastectomy on 9-7-06. Will

start radiation tommorow. (Stage 111bc)I am 52 years old and really

interested in visiting with anyone with my similar statistics or anyone

that might just like to talk. This disease has been devasting to me and

I sometimes find it hard to talk with family and friends that have no

idea what races through your mind a million times a day.

Happy thoughts!

I just joined this site yesterday, but it definitely looks like you have alot of

friends here!

Hang in there. This is the most crazy time (the first month or so after

surgery). Things will clear up and treatments assigned. Remember you have lots

of friends here who can appreciate what you're going through.

Hi Ellen,

You are so right the worries remain no matter what you do. I started the

radiation today and found myself getting angry all over again because I had

difficulty holding my two arms above my head for 30 minutes as they drew on my

chest and zapped me. I joined this group yesterday because for 6 months I have

been depending on friends and family but with the exception of my mother, no one

seems to really grasp the horrendous drain this disease has. Thanks for your

support. May God bless you.

Hi Deborah and welcome to the group. Congrats on completing your

chemo. Future worries..........I think that we all can say that we

have them, that's the scary part of this diagnosis. You're in

remission until you're not. We all get petrified at times and for me,

it's the support of friends and family that keep me going on a day to

day basis. Some day's I " go " easier than others, and some day's are

just endless worries and many tears. All we can do is share our

experiences, hoping to gain comfort and knowledge and this group is

wonderful on both of those fronts. Welcome again - and I look forward

to hearing from you.

30 minutes? Were they just marking your chest in preparation for actual

treatment? My experience was that my radiation rarely took longer than 10

minutes and while it wasn't totally comfortable laying in that stupid position,

it was tolerable. I remember my first visit (when I got my tattoos and form)

took alot longer. It'll get better.

Hi Deborah - That's funny, I also joined this group shortly after my

chemo, right before radiation for exactly the same reasons!! People

do try and " understand " and say the right things, but, unless you've

been there personally, I just don't think you can fully comprehend

what wee're going through. This is a great group of ladies with the

wisdom and knowledge that will help us through this all.

Hugs,

Ellen

Hi Deb,

Am struck by how many of the ladies on here my age. Is 52 a magic number? May

I ask how you found your cancer and what kind? I had a breast reduction 4 weeks

ago and pathology report on just random tissue that was removed from each breast

lobular cancer in situ / moderate ductal hyperplasia left breast and loular

atypia rt breast, HAd biopsy 4 years ago r/t microcalifications.. and showed

left breast atypia. So guess I am just moving down the bc time line. Am in

process of seeing surgical oncologist next Mon. Feel fortunate to have found in

early and in such a odd way. Mammo in May said " no changes " . Have learned

mammos don;t show lobular and Dr said now thet I havehad reduction no mri/ pet

scan willl help me diagnostically for 2 years. Add to that am adopted and have

no fam history.. and had radiation as a kid at age 5. Was told to watch for

cancer r/t radiation. So am thinking to be in the 90-99% group by having a

bilateral mastectomy . worried what all might be in

there when this was found so randomly . anyway.. that is about me.. what about

you? You have gone through much more than I have .. and can;t imagine as I seem

to be crying every other hour.

I was fortunate, they found mine on a mammogram. The lump was very close to my

rib cage and I didn't feel it in a self-exam. That makes me a very

pro-mammogram kind of girl!
