Guest guest
Kathleen, I just want to thank you for your message about your life. I have been sitting here thinking about my "problems". l. Haven't seen the grown grandchildren in almost 2 weeks. Have they forgotten me? 2. How am I ever going to get this house back in some kind of order? 3. How am I going to get off at 5:00 this afternoon and get ready for a date at 6:00? You made me realize that I don't have any problems!!!!! The grown grandchildren do have lives of their own and their own homes to keep up, and they do see their parents most days of the week. They'll be around. The house is "homey", not messy. It'll all come together. If I'm not ready at 6:00, he can just sit and wait. I'm worth waiting for!!! Kathleen, just know that lots of hugs are going out to you today. Things will get better. They always do......eventually.
Guest guest
One word WOW and one comment......AREN'T GRANDKID JUST GREAT???!!! lolKathleen wrote: My life is never dull. Here's another true story to go along with 's, Melody's and Pepper's.My February:I'm babysitting, picking up the girls from school, etc. all thru all this month at various times. So you can just pretty much insert that on any given day.First week of February starts out with me taking my 10 yr old granddaughter and my husband to the same doctor on the same day. She has strep throat for the second time within a month. Her grandpa was diagnosed with thrombophlebitis of the leg and was referred to a vascular surgeon. He has a lump sticking out of his lower leg the size of the top one-third of a tennis ball. No exaggeration. It is sore.Six days later he sees the vascular surgeon and is scheduled for surgery on his leg for the next week. The next day my mother-in-law was unresponsive. We rush over there and we can't wake her. She is sitting slumped in a chair. Her mouth is drooping decidedly to one side. Possible stroke. Called for an ambulance and took her to the hospital. They admitted her for possible stroke to the neurological ICU where they don't allow you to have a chair to sit. DH is standing on his bad leg for long periods of time, which he isn't supposed to be doing on account of the thrombophlebits, but what are you going to do when it's your mother? She is finally released after a few days with no definitive diagnosis, but she is better and is responding and able to feed herself.I keep babysitting, picking the girls up at school, etc. Life goes on.The lump in dh's leg isn't really any better after all that standing.I'm babysitting afternoons.A day or two later we drop off the 6 year old at home with her our son-in-law and I go for my bone density test. I have to lay flat on my back, which sends me into major back spasms. They goof up one of the scans and have to re-do it, making me lay there for a further agonizing period of time. When it is over I cannot stand up straight and can barely walk and I have to start using my crutch again for a week. That Saturday we have our Fun Day in Mc.Tuesday after Fun Day, dh goes back to the doctor and is diagnosed with bronchitis. His surgery has to be post-poned. The doctor also finds a spot he thinks might be skin cancer or will be soon and refers him to a dermatologist to have that removed.Wednesday we celebrate his mother's 98th birthday. Two days later, Mother-in-law has to go to foot doctor. We also find out she threw up the night before. Next day we get two granddaughters to babysit for the weekend while their parents go out of town.Mother-in-law continues throwing up once a night over the weekend. Take her to the doctor on Monday (yesterday) and is put back into the hospital.Today, TOPS meeting day, I'm babysitting both girls after picking them up at school. They are outside playing quietly while I'm putting the finishing touches on the TOPS program. Then I hear lots of laughter, squeals and high-pitched excited screams. I'm saying to myself that it's nice two sisters can have such fun together. Then they both come inside. The 10 year old seems to be trying to come in "under the radar" but is acting nervous and sits down quietly while the 6 year old is plainly excited about something. I notice their hair and clothes are wet. The 6 year old blurts out with lots of exuberance and a big smile on her face "Grandma, Grandma, we were outside digging up the dirt so we could plant flower seeds! Then water just comes squirting up out of the ground! Wa-a-a-a-a-y up in the air! Over our heads! Wa-a-a-a-a-y up high! And then it comes down on our hair and our shoulders and all over our clothes!" This is all said with lots of hand motions and smiling and laughter. The older ones eyes just keep getting bigger wondering if she's in trouble. I'm gasping "Wha-a-a-a-t?" The 6 year old puts her hands out and says "Don't worry Grandma! Grandma! It's ok. We put dirt over it and it's ok now!" I tear out of the house and go out back. Sure enough there's water gurgling and bubbling up thru the mud. The older girl had dug down with a shovel and split an underground water pipe.Grandpa is at the hospital with his 98 year old mother while this is going on. I called him. He didn't know there was even a water pipe there in the flower bed. He didn't know where the water turn-off valve for it was. There are several for this house. He had me going all over the place looking in all kinds of holes in the yard where there are cut-off valves, just not the right one. I finally found it and got the water turned off. Whew! He came home.He doesn't want to call the plumber because of where the pipe is located and a "real" plumber would want to make expensive repairs, relocating the pipes altogether. We don't know how his mother is going to do and don't know how long she'll be in the hospital or how long we'll be home. So he changes clothes and starts to work. This is 3 days before he is scheduled for his leg surgery. I'm not happy about that since he still has bronchitis and thinking he could get some kind of infection from working in the mud so soon before his surgery. He won't listen. Ok, remember this is my TOPS meeting day. We have no water in the house and I need to wash up after all that work finding the water cut-off valve, looking inside all kinds of thingees in the yard and need to leave! I use the reverse osmosis water faucet to wash up. I tell dh I'm taking the girls with me and that their mother will pick them up later since she had to do tutoring after school. He asked if they could stay to run errands for him. I agree. I leave the house with no running water and go to my TOPS meeting. Two new people join tonight! That's the high-point of my day.I meet dh and the girls at our daughter's house where she has made my favorite sandwich...tuna! Yum! He says we have water at the house now. Bless dh for his plumbing ability!DH stops at the hospital on the way home. The nurse tells him the doctor came to see her and said that his mother doesn't have long to live. He comes home to tell me and to get a few things before going back. He doesn't think the end will come tonight, but we both think it will be soon. That has been my month! January was about the same. Just every two or 3 days something else comes along. And this is the busy travelling season for our son-in-law. He travels a lot on business. He's in town a day or two and leaves again for several days. He keeps this up until the end of school. This means more babysitting, running around, etc. for me.I'm tired! I need my TOPS friends! Thank you for listening and being here.Kathleen
Guest guest
Kathleen, After getting home from TOPS last night, I was trying to catch up on reading the 100+ emails in my inbox. After reading your's, I went to bed. You've had way too much life crammed into 2 weeks. I like to be busy, but your kind of 'busy' wore me out just reading about it. Be sure to take care of *you*, while you're taking care of everyone else. I've added your family to the prayer list. hugs, Janet

Oh , that's just awful. My sister's family went through the same thing. Bought a $500 calf and fed it for a year. Had it butchered and stocked the freezer. My sister's daughter-in-law got a pack of meat out and left the door open. Nobody noticed because it's out in the garage. You can guess the rest. Sorry about your freezer. hugs, Janet
Guest guest
Janet, You make me laugh! Thanks for that. All that happened in the whole month, not just the last two weeks. It doesn't seem so much now, does it? I did take care of myself today. I cleaned out my purse. And I gathered the school supplies and letters I've collected for our military people. I'll take that to church tonight to give to my sister. She's getting ready a bunch of packages from our church members to send to Afganistan and Iraq. That little tiny bit of effort on my part makes me feel better. I really am going to stop coming to the computer long enough to go to church tonight. I promise I'm gonna get off the computer...I can do it...I can do it...does anyone think maybe I'm hiding in front of the computer to escape from reality here at home? Guest guest
Randie, You reminded me of what happened at church tonight. Our church has a meal before our Wednesday night service. My dh, my mother, sister, son-in-law and his two girls (my water-pipe-busting granddaughters) were all there at one table. Well, the girls leave to go to their meetings. The preacher gets up and starts talking about gifts of the spirit. Patience, joy, self-control, love, etc. He starts explaining about joy and relates it to having joy in the midst of the " mud puddles " of our lives. I thought I'd fall out of my chair trying to keep from laughing out loud at that one. The girls bring joy into my life and he is talking about joy and mud puddles together. After yesterday, it was just too much! Maybe you had to be there to understand how funny it struck me. Or maybe I just needed a good laugh for my soul. My whole family was trying to keep from laughing out loud. Thank you for the prayers. I'm going to try very hard to get dh to rest tomorrow before his surgery Friday. I appreciate your laughter as well! Kathleen > Kathleen ~ Prayers are going up for YOU, your hubby, MIL and ALL your family !!!!!!
