I just wanted to send a general note of appreciation to all who

contribute to this list.

I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes when during my first

pregnancy last year, and after the birth it never went away. I

started back on insulin in November.

Since joining this list I have managed to reduce me meds by almost

half, simply by learning more about how diabetes affects our bodies

and ways in which we can take more control over this. I am happy

about the meds, and also happy to be doing two less injections per

day!!

I have also been able to help my Mum come to accept her diagnosis of

diabetes. She was told in October lase year that she was also Type 2

after repeated high A1c tests, but she simply refused to believe it

(I come from a very stubborn family!). She isn't an ounce over

weight, eats the perfect diet, and does a minimum of an hour

of 'hard' exercise a day (one of the few 65 year olds who also goes

surfing almost daily just to unwind). The things I have learned on

here have helped me to explain to her that fit people get diabetes

too, and steer her towards some useful information.

Anyway I have some questions which I will send separately, but just

wanted to share my appreciation. I am having fun getting to know you

all.

OT PS - It was lovely to read about the other dog lovers on this

list. I too have had several dogs in the past 7 years, and am still

blessed to be sharing my home with two of them. Both are rescue dogs

and are getting on a bit now, but I can't imagine life without

my 'other' babies.

I am also about to embark on my first ever quilting project. I am

determined to make a quilt for my little girl (Sofie who is already 8

months old). It will be really basic, but would anyone here be

prepared to offer me some help (privately) when I have questions? I

don't really know any other 'crafty' people.
