Guest guest
I was diagnosed a few months ago and my numbers have been pretty good - as long as I watch what I am eating. I am trying to loosely follow South Beach Diet and have increased my walking and exercise quite a bit. When I was eating high carb - before diagnosis - I was sleeping all the time and not getting any exercise. So now that I am not so sleepy and am starting to feel better, I am increasing my physical activity. I think my doctor is planning on leaving me on the 500 mg Metformin for the time being. I go in 2 weeks for another A1C test. My last one was 5.9 but that was being really strict with my eating. Thanks Jane

I think when it kicks in to work can depend on how your body uses it, how long you have been diabetic and how high your numbers have been. Some continue to take small doses, some get gradually higher doses. I have heard that it can take up to a month to get the full affect. It sounds like it is beginning to work for you. Then again if you have changed your diet and are exercising that helps too.

I was at a health fair a few months ago and all the cardiologists there recommended it. Of course high carbs as you noticed do make one sleepy and no energy kind of a vicious cycle. It sounds like you have a good idea on what your body needs to work efficiently. > > I think my doctor is planning on leaving me on the 500 mg Metformin for the > time being. I have heard of some staying on the lower dose as you are which personally I think is good to give some sort of boost while making changes. As long as you are doing well there is no reason to increase it.
