Guest guest
Here are some measurements to give a feel for where your son falls: Plagio Severity: Oblique at 30 deg (US1 and US2) = Length of diagonal taken at 30° on each side (30° corresponds to the corner of the eye). The subtraction of US1 and US2 gives an indication of the asymmetry of the head. normal 0-3 mm very mild <6 mm mild - 6-10 mm moderate - 10-15 mm severe - 15+ mm When our son was 4.5 months he was measuring at 10.8mm. I decided to try repositioning but after 5 weeks I went in for a second opinion and the doctor highly suggested we band him due to his torticollis. We finally got him scanned for the band when he was 6 months old and his asymmetry had gotten worse - 12.2mm. I'm so glad that we went with the band! I think that his head shape would have only gotten worse if we didn't do anything about it. The best piece of advice that I received from this group was " If your child's head shape doesn't get any better than how it currently looks would you be fine with that? " . If the answer is " No " then banding is the way to go. Molly California Nicolas, 10.5 months, tort & plagio, STARband 4/25/06 , 3.5 , 6.5 Plagio measurements? Hello all! Tiernan saw his ped. today and she thinks his plagio is not severe enough to need to be banded. His pt said his measurements are 12 mm assymetry and I can definitely see it when I look at him. If I can figure it out, I'm going to post some pics. of him so you can see. I was wondering what other babies have measured and if you decided to band or not. I am so confused about what I want to do. I know hubby and I are the only ones who can make this decision for us, but any advice/ support would be greatly appreciated!! I take Rebekah on 9-11 but not to a DOC band Dr or to cran tech either. I take her to Baptist hospital in Winston Salem, NC. ANyone know if they measure there? Pam<>< RE: Plagio measurements? Guest guest
The dr. that you see (plastic surgeon, cranial facial specialist, neurosurgeon?) should be able to take measurements for you. Guest guest
My daughter measured 11.5 at almost 6 months. She has been wearing the Doc band for 2.5 weeks now without any difficulties, and I don't know if it is wishful thinking or not but I swear I already see an improvement. She will be measured again in 1 week. So if your baby measures 12, I would think that they would recommend the band, (although I'm no expert). Good luck! Guest guest
Our PT definitely recommends it. I have a consultation with Hanger on Wednesday and one with CT on Thursday. Pair those with a pt appointment and a chiropractor appt., we are in for one interesting week. The one person who says he doesn't need a band is his pediatrician.... but I am planning on fighting that. I have come to the definite decision that I want to put him in one. My way of thinking is that even if he didn't benefit from it (which I doubt would be the case), it wouldn't HURT him so why not give it a try? I'm going to let her know I want the rx when we go in for his four month well baby check, which is in one and a half weeks. Hope that goes well!
