I know I'd always " what if " myself. Your baby is at a great age to recieve awesome correction. Good luck making your decicion. Guest guest
If you don't choose to band yet and want to try to repo I'd really make sure the torticollis is looked after. Guest guest
Your son sounds like he's in the " gray zone " like my son...Max's was 12mm off on the head. I did band b/c we could afford it and I just knew that I would probably NOT look back and say " now why did I band him? " but I probably WOULD say " why didn't I? " Honestly, I think with measurements like those it really comes down to cost...will insurance pay or can you afford to pay for it. If the answer is yes, then I'd do it. I would've said to definitely see how repo goes, but with Tort, it may not help as much as you'd like. It's a tough decision...keep us posted! Guest guest
,Thanks. How old was he when you banded him? Yes, we can afford it so I think you are right. I will regret it if I don't. I agree about repo. Plus he is getting so strong and active, I can't really keep him in one position. I think my husband will agree with some gentle pursuasion. So, you have been happy with your decision now that you are in the middle of it? How long do you think he will have it on? Guest guest
Thanks Haylee, Yes, he is in PT for the tort and I am trying to get lots of exercises in even though he doesn't like them. I guess that is a very good point, that repo is even harder with tort. Bobbi son 5 mos. Guest guest
Hello Bobbi Welcome to the group. I would, and did band. My daughter was 12 mm off, but that is actually moderate already and not mild. at 1.0 you are right there at the boarder between mild and moderate. You will not be able to go back and change your mind, so that is what made me decide for it. Basicly I'm a proactive kind of person. Let us know how you decide, either way you will find tons of support here. Sandy Willow's Mom Torticollis resolved Cranio Germany Grad > > My son is 5 mos. and we went for our eval at CT. Guest guest
Bobbi, Your son has similar measurements to my two girls. na started at 11 mm cva and 9 mm ears while Kiersten started at 10 mm cva and 8 mm ears. So their ears were more involved and you could see it in their faces (especially in hindsight). With na we banded at 4 1/2 months. However, with Kiersten we banded at 7 months. We had to get her tort under control. If you really don't think the repo is going to work or you just can't do it 24/7 due to whatever constraint AND you are not happy with his head hsape then go for it now. If you want to try everything possible to avoid the band then repo for another 4 weeks. The AAP does recommend repo attempts until 6 months. It's a really personal decision. 6 months (probably 6 1/2-7 months when banded) is still a great time to start treatment. I would start the insurance and approvals process now cause that can take 4 weeks. na, DOC Grad X2 Feb 04, Tort Resolved Kiersten, DOC Grad 4/4/06, Tort Resolved www.thefilyaws.com/plagio/plagio.html > > My son is 5 mos. and we went for our eval at CT. Guest guest
Bobbie, how about this analogy. If he had crooked teeth would you get him braces? Well he has a crooked head and needs a band Same concept just most folks don't know about it yet. About the same price too. Thankfully it's shorter treatment time na, DOC Grad X2 Feb 04, Tort Resolved Kiersten, DOC Grad 4/4/06, Tort Resolved www.thefilyaws.com/plagio/plagio.html > > ,Thanks. Guest guest
Bobbi-Max was 8 mo by the time we actually got the band. I am happy with our decision. I was really worried b/c Max was a Colic/extremely fussy infant and is a very willfull 10mo old(get's it from Daddy-HA!). He's very particular about things and I was worried we would spend all that money for him to not even WEAR it!! But I was very surprised on how he just accepted it and didn't have ANY problems! Since he didn't have any issues, I've been very strict about him wearing it 23hrs a day and looks like he'll graduate in about 1mo(3mos total) YEAH! I think when their measurements are mild/mod it makes the decision a little harder b/c you think, " Do I really need to put him thru that? " But, for myself, I knew that I would always notice it and wish I'd done something when I could. Good luck! Keep us posted on what y'all decide to do! Bye, (Max DOCbanded 2/7) > > ,Thanks.
