Guest guest
Hi, My only unmarried sibling has decided to make the leap Nov. 18 in San Diego (He's a Navy officer scheduled for deployment to Iraq shortly afterwards. He's been there on a couple of other deployments already. And another brother is a Marine who's also served several deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.). The wedding plans are just getting started now. I would appreciate finding out about any reasonable hotels/motels that might be suitable for a couple of nights. Any with a fridge/microwave and close to Whole Foods or Henry's would be ideal. I remember a posting awhile back about a great place to stay that was within walking distance of several stores that carried GF stuff but can not find that posting. Thanks! Guest guest
Thanks, I should have mentioned that I had already checked out that web site and they only have one hotel (Sommerset) listed which was not the place that had been mentioned in the post that I saw earlier. I was hoping for a recommendation of a place within walking distance of markets carrying GF products that was mentioned previously. Thanks again, Joy > > Check out www.GlutenfreeinSD.com > > There are hotel recommendations and lots of restaurant ideas. >

Guest guest
Thanks! I don't mind sharing places as it increases the impact of the GF community, reinforcing the clout of the market we represent. At my youngest brother's (Marine) wedding, in Seattle, they managed to get me a bit tipsy. Of course, now I'm GF but I wanted to stay somewhere modestly priced and close to food sources, if possible. Guest guest
In what part of SD are you looking to stay? We live in SD. A couple of years ago my husband and I wanted to get away for a few nights but didn't want the hassle of eating every meal out with a long list of dietary restrictions due to celiac and food allergies. We stayed at Residence Inn in La Jolla. It has a full kitchen. This place is a short walk (~2 easy blocks) from Whole Foods. http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/LAJCA There are a number of restaurants close by as well, but I can't recall what they are at the moment. This is near to UCSD. It is a very busy area. Lots of college students. Beach is close by. Very pretty. Should be absolutely lovely here at that time of year. Guest guest
Yes, Sounds great! I just checked out their web site. I was hoping for a slightly more reasonable room rate but might be able to share with another family member or something if nothing else pops up. I don't know exactly what area of San Diego, I'm going to try to find out more details this weekend. But even if I have to drive a little to get to the wedding ceremony, if its close to other places, it would probably be a good choice. [Right now everyone is having trouble contacting this guy as he seems to be very busy with his fiancee, getting ready for the nuptials or something. They sent a card out that stated more details were forthcoming soon. He just recently proposed a couple of weeks ago and with the deployment looming....].
