Guest guest
I believe there were a couple people who were just about to get one or had just done so. But it's vacation time, so be patient. And ask again if there's no response. People are traveling a lot right around now. Best -- Jill In a message dated 7/3/2006 2:49:58 P.M. Guest guest
My daughter, who is 9 years old, had surgery about 6 weeks ago to implant the base of the BAHA. It will be at least another 6 weeks before we can attach the BAHA device itself and see how it works. In the meantime, we've tried using the BAHA attached to an elastic headband-type thing, but it just won't stay in the right place. We're very anxious to see how everything works out, once her skull heals enough for us to attach the BAHA to the implanted base. We're hoping the BAHA will make a big difference for our daughter. We adopted her 2 1/2 years ago from India. She has severe bilateral conductive hearing loss due to untreated ear infections. The infections basically destroyed the ossicles in her middle ears. She's wearing hearing aids now, but we hope she can get a much clearer sound with the BAHA. Guest guest
Thanks for writing. Our daughter, , was born with a malformed cochlea (Mondini Syndrome). Her vestibular aqueduct is also enlarged. One ear hears better than the other and our audiologist is suggesting that we look into the BAHA system for the ‘bad’ ear. He did a bone conductive test on her earlier this summer and her hearing was greatly improved with it. She’s 11 (going on 18) and we’re always open to new ideas. I’ll be very interested in hearing how it goes with your daughter. What was the surgery like? I read, on the BAHA site, about an adult who had this done and was awake during the whole procedure... Her surgical site also healed very well. I'm very anxious to see how she hears when we can finally attached the BAHA to the base. I'll let you know how it goes.
