Guest guest
I know I needed a toaster so we have that but I'm so torn about what else to get to make life easier. I did get a quasadilla maker and we use that lots. These are a few other things I've heard you all mention and wonder if it's worth the cost.. Ice Cream Maker Kitchen-aid mixer Bread Maker Bread Slicer What are the things you can't live without??
Guest guest
Definitely the Kitchen Aid mixer. I was reluctant to get one since they are pretty expensive, then my husband pointed out that we will be making our own breads and baked goods for the rest of his life. So investing in a good quality mixer that should last for 20years or more is a smart move. We don't use our ice cream maker because there are several brands of ice cream he likes that are GF, it's just easier to buy it. We also don't use the bread maker because with the Kitchen Aid I think it's faster and easier not to. GF bread doesn't need a second rise so it usually takes less than two hours including rise time to make. So far the only things we can't live without are just the Kitchen Aid and some good baking pans. I am currently looking into getting some English muffin/hamburger bun forms as I can't find premade versions around here. I made some good hot dog buns with a little creative aluminum foil folding and they turned out pretty well. Trying to shape the foil for burger buns is a bit harder and I found they make metal rings for them so I will order them soon. Guest guest
I love my bread machine. I've never found GF bread in the store that I like as well as my home-made varieties. I've made most of them from Bette Hagman recipes. The zucchini bread was great -- it wasn't at all like the z-bread I used to make (similar to banana bread), but it tasted a TINY bit like Kings Hawaiian bread (when will they make that GF?!). I have used several other recipes but I would have to browse the book to tell you which ones. I do not have a Kitchen Aid mixer; don't need it with a bread machine. Ice cream maker? That would be Turkey Hill or Edy's! ;-) > > I know I needed a toaster so we have that but I'm so torn about what else to > get to make life easier. > I did get a quasadilla maker and we use that lots. > These are a few other things I've heard you all mention and wonder if it's > worth the cost.. > Ice Cream Maker > Kitchen-aid mixer > Bread Maker > Bread Slicer > > What are the things you can't live without?? >

Guest guest
BTW, I also love my bread machine (important to be programmable). But, for me having a mixer is the MOST essential. I make pizza, crumpets, and french bread that can't really be made in the bread maker... But a bread maker is definitely #2 on my list of essentials. #1 Kitchenaid Mixer (OWN) #2 Bread Machine (programmable) (OWN) #3 Crumpet rings (OWN) #4 French Bread Pan (OWN) #5 Food Processor #6 Tortilla Press (don't have one, but I dream of owning one!) #7 Pizza Stone- still experimenting, but DH insists the crust is much better on one. (OWN) #8 Ice cream Maker (OWN) We have an ice cream maker but have used it maybe three times, to varying degrees of success. #9 Bread Slicer It might be nice but a good knife for cutting bread works as well for us. > > > > I know I needed a toaster so we have that but I'm so torn about what > else to > > get to make life easier. > > I did get a quasadilla maker and we use that lots. > > These are a few other things I've heard you all mention and wonder > if it's > > worth the cost.. > > Ice Cream Maker > > Kitchen-aid mixer > > Bread Maker > > Bread Slicer > > > > What are the things you can't live without?? > > >
Guest guest
Things I can't live without in the kitchen: 1. Kitchen Aid heavy duty mixer 2. Food processor - Carol Fenster told me she uses hers all the time, and I've become more aware of ways to use it: a. making smoothies for breakfast b. making Carol's cheese bread balls (they are sooo good and easy! c. chopping veggies for whatever - if there is more than one veggie to chop up, I use the food processor. d. round cookie cutter, about the size of English muffins - I bought 6, and use them for English muffins, scones, hamburger buns, stuffed sandwiches, and anything else that's round and about that size. They are quite inexpensive. e. freezer - I live alone, cook a full recipe of everything I make, freeze the rest and vary my dinners. There's always a lot of stuff in the freezer! Now I have a question: I am about to get a new kitchen faucet. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'd like something modern and beautiful, but I don't want it to leak anywhere, and I do want it to last longer than I do. Thanks for your input. Guest guest
I like my Moen pull out faucet. When I have a problem, Moen has replaced any parts for free. -
Guest guest
- I'm glad to hear you like your Moen faucet. How long have you had it? What problems did you have with it? I'd like one that doesn't give me any problems, I'm so tired of the Brasscraft faucet that I have that has always leaked in at least 2 places, and the plumber doesn't seem to be able to repair it.
