Hi everyone,

Hope all is doing well....today Dakota had a re-mapping at his audiologist.

and they did a hearing booth test to see where his un implanted ear was..to

see if he is a bilateral implant candidate....with his hearing aid he hears

levels at around 60 -75 db and with the implant and he hears speech levels

at 15db and tones at 20 db with no aid or implant he couldn't hear at 110 db

and that was as loud as the test would go...so we know that he is hearing

with the cochlear implant..I just was beside myself with seeing the

difference..wowoo...has anyone had experiences with an auditory verbal

therapist ...if So I would love to hear about it...

Thanks for letting me share my news from today....

~Cathy~

i know exactly how u feel when u say each test makes u nervous... My

daughter is 20 mo and we knew since she was 5 mo that she has a 80% HL

to the r ear the lf ear is fine but im so scared over time the left

will go bad d/t compensating! I just finally did her follow up since

her CT Scan (at 5mo).. umm last weeek! Ive been procrastinating b/c I

think she hears just fine.. (like all mom's im sure!) But she is on the

normal level of a 20 mo old.. So have they said much like will his good

ear eventually go bad??

Attachments can't travel on this list, so there was nothing attached to your

post. If you want to share attachments it has to be done off-list,

one-to-one. It's the basic virus/trojan/worm/nasty devil security concern.

Welcome to all of the new people that have joined the list recently.

My name is . I have two sons, (9) and Caleb (7). Caleb has a

mild sloping to profound, bilateral, sensory neural hearing loss. His is

oral, wears hearing aids, and is doing wonderfully. To the person who

asked about high frequencies sounds - Caleb's loss slopes from about

60db to 100 db (both ears) from 1000 - 8000. I know that he has trouble

hearing many consonant sounds (even aided), and cannot hear s, f, and th

at all with out his aids. He also misses the ends of words sometimes,

and often has trouble discriminating between certain consonant sounds

with out lip reading- Ex. the " t " sound and the " c " sound - although

this is getting better now that he is learning to read print. :-)

One of our therapist gave us an audio cassette that simulates what it is

like to have a high frequency hearing loss. It's called " Sound Hearing -

Or Hearing What You Miss " . I'm not sure where to get it but others on

this wonderful list may be able tell you or point you to a similar item.

It helped us understand a lot.

Again, welcome to the list.

God bless,

FL

Hello, hope this helps. Here is a copy of an audiogram with the

speech banana drawn on it. It shows that at the f, s, and th sounds

are at the 4000-8000 range. If I understand correctly, the audiogram

shows those sounds occuring at around 20-30 db. So, with a loss of

45-50db, he won't be able to hear those sounds without an aid.

yes - they can. It just looked like she might have been trying to send

an enclosure.
