Guest guest
Hi all, thought I would share this story with you... This weekend, a dear friend of mine who lives in Kuopio came for a visit. We both share a love of dogs and have tons of stuff in common so we attended the dog show here in Imatra. Thursday, she called and expressed some concern about my gluten free lifestyle (shes a typical Finlander, addicted to gluten) and asked if she could bring her own bread. I told her of course she could. (She had heard enough of my fits about the guys leaving gluten globs everywhere that I KNOW she would be careful) So she arrived friday morning, we had a snack I had prepared, a green salad with LF bleu cheese and a nice balsamic vinegrette and a mixed fruit salad. We headed for the dog show, where it was unbearably hot, so decided to come home a bit early. I prepared grilled chicken and grilled veggie salad with a honey mustard dressing, more fruit salad and grilled "Texas garlic toast" made with Schar paninni rolls. We topped it off with some GF/LF chocolate nugat ice cream. Yesterday morning, I made GF french toast with cinnamon topped with the strawberry preserves I made, and headed back to the show. Again, it was terribly hot, so we opted not to stay for Best in Show, and came home for a late lunch. We had fresh crawfish, with new potatos and corn on the cob cooked in the spiced water with the crawfish. Last night, we had grilled salmon, more veggies and new potatos and "garlic toast". We then had some "spiked" fruit salad for dessert and sat on the terrace and listened to the music festival downtown. (why pay big bucks when you can hear for free from home?) This morning we had more french toast, and I helped her get things together to go. We got her dogs loaded up along with her gear, and there on the passenger seat of her car, the unopened loaf of rye bread.... She just smiled, gave me a big hug, and said that she had been worried about her bread fix for nothing! I think that was the nicest compliment I have ever gotten! Just thought I would share... Hope everyone here had a wonderful gluten free weekend! Best! Cassi Gluten free in downtown Imatra!

What a great story! I have to honestly say, that my glutenoid family doesn't " miss " gluten at 99% of family dinners. It's a rare meal when someone wants a piece of poison bread to sop up some gravy or something. Glad no great gross globs of flying gluten got you!
