Guest guest
Barbara, we do that, too . . . ear canal side up. It just seemed right . . .. no one told us what side to put up. Sydney takes her aids out now and puts them in the Dry & Store. She tells us she's " cooking them " . She gets them out the next morning. So far, I put them in. She's five. At what age did your children put theirs in? I'd like to know that from everyone. It's not that easy for me to do yet, but I'm getting quicker every day. Her left one is easier for some reason. I just can't imagine her putting them in by herself right now. Guest guest
Oh goodness, it's been awhile (then again, sometimes I still have to remind them!). It seems like they were maybe 6 or 7? And you're right, you want to make sure they're in there correctly, the unit's been turned on, etc. And as humid as it's been here of late, I like to check the block myself. Guest guest
Oh wait - you're asking about when my boys put their aids in by themselves? I think it was 6 or 7 with a little help initially... Guest guest
I think my both my boys took over insertion for themselves by the start of Kindergarten. My younger son might have been a bit younger when he learned to do it, since he benefits from his older brother's trail blazing. > Barbara, we do that, too . . . ear canal side up. Guest guest
Maggie was and is a very independent little cuss, I think she started putting them in when she was about 4 1/2. (about 6 months after she got her aids)

He hated it so much that he never let me try again. Which was fine by me since he seemed to know how to do it almost instinctively. But Ian was aided at a much older age than most of the kids on this list. Best -- Jill
Guest guest
It's been so long - my guys were probably younger than 6 also and you're right . Sam was likely younger since my older son also blazes the trail for them both! Funny how that is... Guest guest
I don't remember exactly how old they were, but that it was a big deal to the preschool teacher. She had 9 kids to wire up every day, and wanted all the kids to be as independent as possible, especially before reaching Kindergarten. So my oldest would have been just less than 5 due to his late birthday, and my younger son was probably a young 4. > It's been so long - my guys were probably younger than 6 also and you're > right . Guest guest
Wow, our daughter is 5 and I put them in, but she just got her aids on July 19, too. She probably can do it better than I'm thinking she can. We'll know when it's the right time, I guess. She takes them out carefully and easily, and puts them in the Dry & Store and turns it on. It's just hard for me to imagine her being able to put them in the ear canal, twist them into place, fit it behind all the ear folds, etc. Robin > > I don't remember exactly how old they were, but that it was a big deal > to > the preschool teacher.
