Guest guest
Hi my name is . If your son is eating all day that is great! Try giving him high calorie foods such as toasted cheese sandwiches, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, ice cream with syrup etc. He needs as many calories, especially fat calories, as he can get in order to keep his weight up and just in case he gets sick. Those fat calories contain energy and that's what makes him get better. Nutrition is linked to the health of the lungs. You know, our doctor let's us know about almost everything and I can't believe your doctors don't mention this stuff. We owe a lot of our good furtune to Dr. . The only reason I would leave him and go somewhere else is if he recommended we do so. I can't say enough about him and his staff. They're wonderful! Guest guest
Hi. I was wondering if anyone has experienced the following....My 3 year old is hungry all day! He has CF and is taking Pancreacarb. He will eat a meal and then ask for more not 15 minutes later. Than eat again. All day! Also, when I try to make him wait, his behavior becomes uncontrolable. Tantrums, violent, etc. Any ideas? Michele __________________________________________________
Guest guest
hi I have found that with 8 kids they all seem to go thru a growth spurt and they demand food LOTS of FOOD.Also when my 4 year old cf'er gets low iron she acts like she would eat a horse and the barn it lives in.She eats more than her 17 year old brother. Also when she gets a virus she eats and eats(she doesn't grow a lot I think she has a hollow leg ! ; ) I hope this helps.Toddlers change from week to week they are so fascinating I just love kids!BeckyB. Guest guest
I know when my girls are feeling they eat really good too. So take this as a good sign. Its when they don't want to eat is when I worry. If they are putting weight on and growing then the enzymes are doing what they are supposed to be doing. Guest guest
My first thought is to make sure you are feeding him plenty of protein as opposed to carbohydrates...the protein will help him feel full longer. Can you make him bigger portions of each meal, since it seems he isn't eating enough at each meal if he is hungry 15 minutes later? My son is 14 months and recently started screaming when he wants food, until the food is in his mouth (which, with enzymes, food preparation, etc, can sometimes be a few minutes). We got uncured, nitrite-free hot dogs and he likes them cold from the fridge. We have gotten in the habit of giving him half of one to eat while he waits for the food to be ready, or some other quick snack with lots of protein, like a piece of cheese. From what I understand, kids with CF need lots more calories than other kids just to maintain weight. I take the huge appetite as a sign that my son is doing well! When he was diagnosed, we were all very worried about him as he was down to 2-3 nursings a day, and almost no solid food. mama to 1 yo w/CF and 3 yo woCF > > > Hi. Guest guest
Becky, That is interesting that you say your little one eats constantly when she gets a virus, b/c my little guy has a virus the past few days and I had been worried b/c he seems to just be starving. So thanks for sharing that b/c it eased my worries a bit! I was thinking he might be going through a growth spurt which would be great b/c we are still working to get him up there farther on the growth charts. Guest guest
We still use the bottle so we always use Pediasure in there. The doctor also told us we could try Carnation Instant Breakfast, but Tristan does not like that. Go figure, considering it is way cheaper! Since your three-year-old doesn't still have a bottle, you could put Carnation instant breakfast added to his milk at meal times, etc. just to boost his calorie/protein intake. We use Scandishake packets at meal times. I don't put the whole packet in his drink, but just put a little from the packet in his milk at each meal and he really likes it, plus I know I am really boosting his calorie/fat/protein intake. My neighbor is a nutritionist and mentioned to us that eggs are the best source of protein and so we feed him lots of egg and cheese sandwiches, which I like b/c they are quick and easy (: Hope those suggestions help. I know I am always worrying that our little one is getting too much junk food fat and not enough healthy food b/c he rarely eats much fruits or veggies. We just keep offering them though. Guest guest
The suggestions given by everyone else have been great, so we hope you're feeling better about his eating. However, how are his bm's? His weight gain? The need for more enzymes is possible. Hugs, Ann, Mommy of Joy, age 2 w/cf
Guest guest
Thanks for all of the suggestions. Actually, his weight gain has been good. He's stayed 25-50th %! His height has been poor. Not even on the chart. His bowels are actually ok. He has had major distention for over a year and has been diagnosed with small bowel bacterial overgrowth.( a complication of too many antibiotics due to major sinus disease.) He will have an endoscopy on Wed. to look for an ulcer, since the symptoms he has can be related to that. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. It seems like there aren't too many gastro9 complicated kids of his age group. I would love any ideas! Thanks, Michele --- Ann ann-e@...> wrote: > The suggestions given by everyone else have been > great, so we hope > you're feeling better about his eating.
