What would you be thinking? Don't try to talk me down cause it won't work - these next two weeks are going to drive me crazy anyway!!!!! I think he does not want to get into a long discussion over the phone and that there is no way to predict what the results are from his non-answer. When it comes to discussing genetics, it's our experience that it is a long discussion with a lot of maybe's and could-be's. So I would try not to read anything into it. For all you know, he has already sent the blood work to another lab and gotten those results as well. It sounds like normal procedure to me, our docs don't like to give anything over the phone because then they can't answer our questions. Our docs are very good, and they have done this to me. I thought I'd get an ulcer waiting for the appointments. And, to their credit, I did always have questions, so they were quite smart in making me wait. Guest guest
I would say normal. I have had Drs not give results over the phone for various tests. I wouldn't worry yet! Tawnya No results over phone? Well we finally got a call back from the geneticist and said the results are in. We tried to set up an appointment and I couldn't get on for another two weeks. Since I'm inpatient I asked if there was anything that he could tell me over the phone and he said " no " . So what should I get out of that? I'm thinking that the results were positive for something - CX 26? If it wasn't I figured he would tell me that they were going to send the blood off to a different lab which we decided to do if we didn't find anything through this test. Honest opinions please. What would you be thinking? Don't try to talk me down cause it won't work - these next two weeks are going to drive me crazy anyway!!!!! Or is this just normal practice? I know that most of the time the " doctor " has to give you results but I've always been able to get good results over the phone!
Guest guest
I have always been told by x-ray technicians and all other people but doctors that the doctor will have to speak with me, and nothing's ever been wrong. They just aren't licensed to do so. They could probably get in huge trouble. > > I would say normal. Guest guest
HI Sara - I think it's normal. I worked at Tulane when we were in NOLA and we were never allowed to give results over the phone - only the doctor's office would give results and that was always in person. I know you're going crazy - I would be - but I think it's normal... Barbara saraandchadd wrote: > Well we finally got a call back from the geneticist and said the > results are in. Guest guest
Sara, with HIPAA, the newish privacy law, they can't really give you much info over the phone. Or they have a policy against it because they can't see that you are who you say you are over the phone. And genetics and HIV are things that come with " counseling " - you don't just get the results - you get the results with some counseling. So its understandable, aggravating I'm sure but understandable.
Guest guest
Just piping in....I ALWAYS tell ALL doctors that I want the results as soon as they are available, even over the phone. And I've had a nurse read me my own pathology report over the phone, no discussion about it, just read to me what it says. And I had all of Grace's genetic tests read to me over the phone. In fact, I don't think I have ever NOT gotten results over the phone if that is what I wanted. I was even told I had breast cancer over the phone because the waiting game really is awful! I think making any patient wait is unnecessary. You can always make an appointment to discuss it further, but some of us are quite savvy when it comes to understanding what the reports mean. I get nasty on the phone if someone says they don't give results over the phone. It's just their policy and not something set in stone. I make myself a nuisance if needed by calling everyday or asking to talk to someone else or their supervisor. Eventually they tell me so I stop calling. But usually I don't have to go that far. I've dealt with far too many doctors and tests to have to 'wait' any longer than necessary. I wouldn't think that anything is abnormal because they didn't tell you, but if you want to know, I think you have a right to know. I also get copies of every test so I can read it for myself. IMHO, Cherie Mom to , 6, hearing, and Grace, 4.5, bi-lat severe/profound with auditory neuropathy and AB Auria CI activated 1/06.
