Guest guest Posted July 12, 2006 Report Share Posted July 12, 2006 I LOVE cheese curds, but a great deal of people I have mentioned cheese curds to have never heard of them either. My husband didn't know what they were either until he met me. I can't even get them here anywhere, so I always get some when I go home to WI. My parents actually usually have some in their fridge. My husband HATES them, but he doesn't like to eat plain cheese anyway. They are just like little balls of cheese I guess. They can be kind of rubbery - sometimes almost squeaky kind of. Guest guest Posted July 12, 2006 Report Share Posted July 12, 2006 Cheese curds are maybe an inch or more around and bumpy. They are what cheese is before it is pressed into rounds. We used to get them fresh from the cheese house and I NEVER refrigerate mine-some cheesheads do but they are only good for a couple days if not refrigerated. They sound squeaky when you eat them. My son calls them squeaky cheese. The deep fried ones are in batter or breading and deep fried just like mozzerella sticks. YUMMMMY! It doesn't even even sound like something you are supposed to eat!'. My son and daughter love them and so do I. My brother sent some to my daughter for Christmas and she only let me have 3 of them! That's it. She was already going without dairy but said she didn't care if she got sick from them! LOL. They're so yummy. I miss them loads. Even with all the dairy operations in the Shenandoah Valley, I have to buy imported curds. I *can* buy them, though I have to drive an hour one way and the ones I buy are imported from Wisconsin. One *can* buy them online, but quantity/shipping is pricey. They are in pieces about a inch long or so. If they are fresh and room temp they squeak when you eat them. They are yummy! Espicially fried- think mini mozzarella sticks. They come in lots of varieties. Most are a mix of yellow and white. I have seen flavored ones too like tomato basil flavor, etc. They are realy popular in Wisconsin!
