Guest guest
Hey ladies..and gents. I'm working this WW plan to death right now and I'm so proud to be entering week 2 in just a day or so. I wanted to speak out on one little topic that seems to come up on all of the boards, especially on the actual WW board online and over the last few days on this one. I spoke on this at my last WW meeting and it was greeted by overwhelming applause...here it goes.....take it all with love Trying to still have our old foods and make the points work I'm guilty of it too. How many points is velveeta dip? How many points is a sausage biscuit? One thing that I realized last year, when I dropped my first 30 pounds after the baby (without WW), was that some of the things in my diet just have to go...at least for now. I didn't gain all of this weight from eating veggies So I cut out ALL DRIVE THRUS...I have two little kids, but for the last 13 months I've not eaten ANYTHING that comes out of a drive thru window...a big accomplishment for me and the way I lost the first 20 pounds for sure. I also gave up regular sodas and any other soda/fizzy drink with corn syrup. Those two things were HARD, but it has made such a difference in my weight and in my will power. The world didn't end because I let go of two of my food vices..but my improved health, physical and mental, speaks to the power of what " letting go " of certain food crutches can do for you. I know several of you WW veterans can lift your hand and say amen to that for sure. So this week, instead of trying to figure out how to " manipulate " my points into my old unhealthy eating habits, I just decided to throw in the towel and try to eat better. For the last three days, with this new attitude, I've been entering dinner time with 11-14 points and I haven't used any flex points yet this week. I say all of this to say that we can ALL stand to improve our eating habits. So I challenge you too this weekend. Vow to just say no to one unhealthy food choice...even if you HAVE the points to cover it. Junk food and fast food is simply not going to get us to our WW goals. At the end of the day WW and any other food/diet plan is about a healthier you...mind, body and soul. When you experience your willpower in action, your mind will thank you, your body will thank you and your soul will sing! Guest guest
Thanks you guys for the support. Yes, , I hear you loud and clear. I just wanted to share how I lost 30 pounds last year WITHOUT Weight Watchers and kept it off completely by challenging myself to kick the drive thru habit. I think the problem for most folks is that one burger a month leads to one burger a week leads to saying to heck with it all...I need a double double with extra mayo I think what I'm referring to more than anything is giving yourself " exercises in willpower " that will affect your entire life, not just your weight. I made the goal of one year, now I'm free to eat drive thrus everyday if I want, but NOW I realize that I do have the stamina to make it home with kids wailing in the car and fix a healthy meal..that the drive thru is not the end all be all. Girl, eat your fast food...nothing wrong with treating yourself. For me, I know it's got to be a true lifestyle change and a change in my taste buds in order to kick the weight loss once and for good. Thanks to whoever gave the tip on the 's Sandwich for 5 points...I'll be using that one! Kudos to everyone whose dropped weight so far. Oh, and yes " SuperSize Me " , the film, was what kicked me into high gear last January. It should be REQUIRED VIEWING before starting WW...that's all I have to say! Guest guest
Tammy G, I agree with you. You must make lifestyle changes if you want this new way of eating to work. One can not continue to eat at fastfood restaurants while at the same time trying to lose weight. The documentary Super Size Me really helped me to stop wanting fast foods. My weakness is 's. Now instead of cheeseburger i have veggie protein burger on wholewheat english muffin, sliced tomatoes, onions, and lettuce with mustard. Really delicious and 100's less calories and fat so better for the old arteries anyway. SGPinLA@... wrote: Hey ladies..and gents. Guest guest
Tammy and , i agree with you all but only to a point. the fact is, i've eaten fast food all my life. fact is, i like it. now, most of the time, during my first 11 weeks with ww, i make very healthy choices. i dont try to fit a little amount of junk food in for a ton of points because i'd rather eat a larger amount of healthy food and not spend as many points. but, looking back at my food journals, i've eaten several happy meals at mcdonalds, and i've still managed to lose over 32 pounds in 11 weeks. the thing i like about ww is that i dont have to feel guilty about eating what i like, and i dont have to feel like, " today i'm starting weight watchers and now i can never eat the foods i like again. " that is the reason i have failed so many times on my own. i lost 70 pounds once because i never let myself even smell the foods i loved, and guess what happened? i let myself have one meal, and it was all down hill from there. and now i have to lose that 70 pounds all over again. i dont mean to dog you guys, i agree with making healthier choices whenever you can. but dont get too down if someday you are really really craving a cheeseburger and you let yourself have one. just savor every bite and have some fruit and veggies with it Just my thoughts. > > Tammy G, > I agree with you. Guest guest
Hi, Tammy, Way to go, Girl, sticking with it! WW becomes a habit after a while, and hence, a life change. One thing, my two cents worth, yes, chuck the old eating ways. But, once you have been on program for awhile, you learn to take your old favorites and fix them to where they are more healTHY and still within program. For example, if you like veleveeta dip, buy the lower fat, eat less of it, bulk it up with onions, tomatoes, peppers, etc. A sausage biscuit can be done with an english muffin and lower fat sausage patties (my leader told us of one that is 3 pts for 3 patties, cant think of the name brand right now). We have some family favorite recipes that I just tweaked with fat free stuff, and bulked it up with veggies, and they are very filling foods and very WW friendly. My family is none the wiser, they just know, " Yeah, sour cream enchiladas! " I am a very busy homeschooling mom, and taking 15 hours of college myself with hubby out of town alot, I found that I cannot cut out the drive thrus. What I did was find much healthier choices from the menu. For example, I love 's because I can get the ultimate grilled chicken with no sauce and extra lettuce and tomato for 5 points. Of course, it is a decision that I have to make not to order the classic double with cheese, but, there we go with the life decisions again. You will find others making the comment not to deny yourself, because then you are on a diet, and WW is not a diet. Indulge a little, and eat as healthy as much as you possibly can, and when you find you really want something 'bad', you have the other 99% of healthy eating to pad you. Blessings, and congrats on sticking with it for 2 weeks, you are already there, girl! Beckie Hey ladies..and gents.
