Guest guest
We're in California and the kids are on the state's Healthy Families insurance program, through Blue Cross. It covers ST and OT. Guest guest
We are on Kaiser Permanente and our insurance does pay for speech therapy - I think it would also pay for OT too. > > Does any of your insurances pay for speech or OT therapy foo your kids. Guest guest
Hello, I have been lurking here for a while and our insurance, Performax, does not cover any speech therapy at all. Since our son, , did not have an accident and suddenly lost his ability to talk the insurance company does not pay. We have gone through two medical reviews and still they won't pay. We are deciding what to do next. Teri Murray

Guest guest
Our insurance denied me at first. I then had my nuero-developmental pediatrician write a letter of medical necessity with specific codes indicating such and after a week's review, they approved 60 visits. Guest guest
My HMO, United Healthcare, sent a letter denying the previous 20 visits they permit for speech therapy due to injury, stroke, or congenital anomaly because they say my son's problems are developmental and they don't cover that. Now we owe $1400 to Beckman and Associates! Debra Beckman sent a letter to my pediatrician to see if they can't get United to cover it. I just got a letter from my pediatrician from yesterday's visit. I am going to send it in and see what happens. This will be my second attempt. Next month I have an appt for my son to get a neuro evaluation from a pediatric neurologist. Perhaps this will help? I don't expect my HMO to give me more therapy visits; I'm just trying to get them to pay for the therapy I thought we qualified for! My son will see the neurologist to diagnose Moebius Syndrome versus Poland's Sequence. Hopefully in May my son will get an evaluation from the local university's speech program (they have a 2 year waiting list). I can't get the school behind my house to call me back but I leave messages every day. We are going to sell our old 89 Corvette so we can pay for therapy for one year. After that I don't know where the money is going to come from? Hopefully my husband's employer will switch insurance companies next year; my husband's company is less than 100 employees so they can't get good rates. This year they offer United HMO or United PPO and both give 20 visits of speech therapy per year if you have had an injury, stroke, or congenital anomaly. Aetna HMO who we had last year was willing to pay for 99 visits!! Best wishes! > > Our insurance denied me at first. Guest guest
Hi, all I have to say about United HC is this...they stink....they paid for the first 5 visits of my sons therapy, and then I continued to do the next 15 visits and they denied me, and they didnt deny me until I was 6 visits into the next year...imagine that !!! So I had to come up with ALOT of money for the ST - although she lowered it substantially for me...I tried to go back to United HC for each visit they still denied. Anyway I hope you have better luck than me !! Michele
Guest guest
I sent a copy of your message to my husband at work and he got his Human Resources Representative at work to call me! She will call United Healthcare and she also called the company that coordinates our *benefits* with United Healthcare! Maybe nothing will come of it but thank you for replying or otherwise we wouldn't have thought of other people to contact for help! Sincerely, Debra in Central FL > > Hi, all I have to say about United HC is this...they stink....they paid for the first 5 visits of my sons therapy, and then I continued to do the next 15 visits and they denied me, and they didnt deny me until I was 6 visits into the next year...imagine that !!!
