Guest guest
I have a cricket who has decided to rent the space at the window that's above my desk. Of course, it can't be a quiet little cricket. Oh NOOOOOOO. It's the LOUDEST cricket ever created! And it can't be the kind that just goes " chirp, chirp " every couple of minutes. This one is long-winded and hasn't stopped to take a breath in at least 5 minutes now. Anybody know some sure fire ways to evict an unruly cricket?? Guest guest
NOOOOOOO! I love hearing crickets chirp. It will lull me to sleep at night. Guest guest
You are MORE than welcome to this little bugger. Normally they wouldn't bother me at all, but this one is like listening to annoying telephone line static constantly for up to 4 hours when you're trying to hear dictation! It's even worse than listening to an ESL doctor shuffle papers or rattle an x-ray the entire time of a 10 minute dictation as he's dictating from across the room on speaker while eating his very crunchy lunch. :-) The only good cricket is a Jiminy Cricket. Guest guest
I may be a little odd. I also love hearing the deafening roar of hundreds of cicadas singing in the heat of the day here in south Texas. It just makes my very distant childhood memories come flooding back. If the hot Texas days have a sound it is the song of the cicada. Quixote Stupid crickets! > > > > > > I have a cricket who has decided to rent the space at the window that's > above my desk. Guest guest
We used to get that when we lived in Houston. It would be so loud sometimes that our son would plug his ears and run for the car when we went somewhere. I always thought it was a pretty neat sound, very unique. Guest guest
LOL!! But I know it's got to be nerve-wracking for you! Maybe putting down a small amount of something sticky and sweet that it would be drawn to and get stuck in would do the trick. Hang in there! Guest guest
You all better be nice to that cricket! In parts of the world a cricket's presence in the house is equated with good fortune and intelligence; harming a cricket supposedly causes misfortune. Ol' timers supposedly can predict the weather by counting cricket chirps. Your cricket is a boy (girls don' talk) - give him a manly name as he only has about a 2 week life span. He will spend most of the time yelling his head off in hopes of attracting Ms. Cricket. Guest guest
Hmmm, in that case Mr. Frog Food has about a week left to irritate the heck outta me. Guest guest
Quixote, If you're a little odd, you have company. We have bunches of cicadas in Missouri too, and I look forward to their song every summer. It just seems that summer hasn't arrived until they start singing. Guest guest
Are those the bugs that are in the trees that make noise that gets progressively louder? Being originally from California, I had never heard such a thing. Our first summer here in Tennessee freaked me out when I heard them. I thought someone had called them " Kady digs? " or something like that. Re: Stupid crickets!
Guest guest
Yes, those are the ones! My grandma called them locusts, but I've never researched the relationship between these guys and locusts. Katydids is what you heard. Rennie www.renesue.com Re: Stupid crickets! Guest guest
I must be odd too. The other day, I was on my patio listing to the cicada in the tree across the alley, when it stopped abruptly, and out of the corner of my eye, I saw something fall from the tree. I walked over, there was a huge hornet-like creature dragging the almost-dead cicada away through the grass. Reminds me how nature can seem so cruel..... That nasty hornet ruined my concert! Guest guest
Those are known as cicada killers. They sting the cicada to paralyze it, take back to their burrow in the ground and lay there eggs in the body of the cicada, which the young use for food when they hatch. :^) Quixote Stupid crickets! > > > > > > > > > > > > I have a cricket who has decided to rent the space at the window > >that's > > > above my desk. Guest guest
I remember seeing and hearing locusts as a child in Penna. They were actually locusts.. brown grasshoppers. I don't think I've ever seen or heard a cicada, or maybe I have and just don't know what they sound like. Is their sound similar to a locust? Jan jantranscribes@... " Typing is my life. Guest guest
We have those 17-year cicadas here in PA. They come out of the ground every 17 years and boy are they noisy! They aren't around long, but it's funny to see all the holes in the ground. Apparently they're good for ground irrigation! LOL. Pattie Re: Stupid crickets!
