Guest guest
I am asking this and wondering if we could " re-vote " the replies going to the list and the person. I am wondering in view of how many emails I'm seeing with people saying they are bouncing and not receiving answers to their emails in a timely manner including me. What if we voted again with a view that we would post to both the person and the list so everyone could benefit from the answers and the person asking the question could possibly get their answer faster?? Not trying to stir anything up, but I have not received answers to some of my questions for over an hour and by then it is too late for me. Anyone else care to share their feelings on this? Guest guest
Just my $0.02, which doesn't count for much since I'm a [re-]newbie here ... If there's one thing that really bugs me, it's receiving two copies of e-mails, which is what will happen much of the time when list settings are to reply to both list and sender. If it gets set up that way, I'll probably bow back out, as my volume of mail is already high enough without duplication. Every post that comes through can be replied to either via the list, or individually, or both when the occasion seems to warrant it. (The sender's e-mail address IS there and doesn't need to be in one's address book, but it may require a tiny bit of effort to send to it when it's necessary to do so.) Whichever method is chosen, there will always be those that like it and those that don't. I've seen this same disagreement come up on virtually every list I'm on. Seems to me the listowner should make a decision and everyone simply live with that decision and adjust accordingly. Okay, so $0.03 ... > I agree Valpie.. Guest guest
I agree Valpie.. I liked it the way it was when I hit reply all and it went to the list and to the questioner so they'd get their answer faster in case Yahoo was being yahooey. I, too, need answers more quickly because I'm transcribing online, not from tapes, so I don't have the option to go back to it later. The way it is now if I hit reply all it goes to the list twice, and I know that has to be annoying to the other list members, plus it clogs things up I would think. For example, just now I was unable to respond to LysaMT privately to let her know her post came through because I don't have her email address in my address book. Just my 2 cents. Guest guest
In your response this is where it shows up on my email in box. I don't know if it would be the same for every email set up. I underlined, hi-lited and italicized it so you can see it. It does take as much of an effort to do it this way as to just hit delete if we chose the other way. So, yes, once the decision is made and Trish has done this as democratically as possible by having us vote, I think it should be set. Hope this helps. Guest guest
My sentiments exactly....not only that...how would we know the question was answered correctly or for that matter.....even answered? Sometimes you just have to see what's best and not what's easier on some. There are many members on this list, and not everyone is going to be happy with the way e-mail is set up.....ya just have to adjust sometimes. Can the email be set up where you see the senders email address along with it going to the list? That might help. c -- Re: Trisha and list with respect Just my $0.02, which doesn't count for much since I'm a [re-]newbie here ... Guest guest
If you look at the header info below it's also what is found when you're in OE and you right-mouse click on an email in your inbox and select Options. When the dialog box pops up then at the bottom you will see the header info listed and you can scroll through it to find the From: line and then highlight the email address and hit CTRL-C to copy it. You can then close the box and and hit reply to the message you want to reply to and either wipe out the group address from the To: line or click at the end of it and hit CTRL-V to paste the address in. If you have another email program you may be able to right-mouse click on the message in your inbox and when the menu comes up have a " Properties " selection that you can click on. That will give you the senders address right in plain view and you can highlight it and then copy and paste it when you hit reply. I use Incredimail (I know....I should use OE or O like real techs but I like the fun stuff in Incredimail) and have this option. I'm not sure about AOL but it wouldn't hurt to try right-mouse clicking on an email in your inbox and see if you get a menu. This does take a little longer than just having the person's email address right in the email when you hit reply but it should only be a matter of seconds more and not minutes once you've done it a few times and know what you're looking for. The header info can look confusing because it runs all together but you just have to search for the From and it's usually right at the top of the header info or towards the middle. But, if I remember correctly, there was a bit of a change in how messages were handled in the 5.5 to 6.0 transition. Other than that, I have no idea. I try to avoid OE unless I need it to send annoying background sounds to deserving people on another list. ;-)

Guest guest
> Chuck...who tries to avoid OE, > > What do you use when you're not using OE? I'm currently using Pegasus (free) -- http://www.pmail.com -- but searching for another e-mail client. I used Outlook and Outlook Express for a long time, but they're such system hogs (particularly the former) that I'd rather use something less resource-intensive on my system and faster to use with the high volume of mail I receive (not to mention less prone to viruses). In the past, I've used Becky! and The Bat!, Japanese and Moldavian clients, respectively, and they're both good, but not free (cheap, though). There's a new one in development that I'm beta testing called CleverCactus, and it's run entirely in Java, with a built-in calendar, to do list, etc., much like Outlook, but it's in early development and rather buggy. In short, you never know what I'll show up using, though with plaintext only here it won't be as obvious as it would on HTML- capable lists. MUCH more than you wanted to hear, I know ... Guest guest
Hmmmm, When I click " reply " , I see NMTC just once. If I click " reply all, " the same thing shows up twice.. No actual sender address. To see the sender's Email in OE, I have to right click on the message in the Email box and choose properties. Sometimes my messages don't go through and sometimes they take a long time to go through. One time I noticed one message went through 20 minutes after a message I sent after it. It seems as though sometimes I don't get all the messages because I'll see an answer I didn't see the question to! How confused am I!? LOL a Re: Trisha and list with respect I certainly understand double responses would be annoying to you, so I see your point I just can't seem to figure out how to respond to someone privately, so perhaps you or someone else could educate me in that area.
