Guest guest
Hi. I've been a member of this group for a couple years now but I've never posted before. My 5 year old has oral and verbal apraxia. The oral apraxia is mostly resolved with a lot of work and EFA's. He turned 5 two weeks ago and this was the first year he was able to blow out his birthday candles!! He has been on 2 ProEFA and 1 ProEPA since before his third birthday. I recently decided to add in another dosage. He has always gotten the EFA's in the morning. His progress seems to have plateaued lately. He is about 2 years behind in speech right now and gets speech therapy and OT for fine motor delays and he does have some sensory issues, so I thought doubling the dose might give him another surge. So for the last couple of weeks he's been getting 2 ProEFA and 1 ProEPA in the am and the same in the afternoon/evening. And it's been working. I'm pretty sure I've seen another surge. Unfortunately, he's in that hyper period. Everytime I've upped his dose or he's had a lapse of longer than a week when he get gets back on he has a period of 2-3 weeks when he is just non-stop hyper, not listening and driving me insane but that usually subsides. We are getting near the end of that now, thank goodness. My first question, is the hyperness normal? I think I read somewhere (but I can't for the life of me remember where) that this means the EFA's are working? Not sure. But at least I do know it's temporary! My second question and I'm not sure if I've ever seen this come up is: can I give him both doses at the same time? Can I just give him 4 ProEFA and 2 EPA in the morning or is it better to space them out. For some reason he loves to take his " talking medicine " in the morning and hates it in the afternoon. And I'm always almost forgetting the second dose. I squeeze the caps right onto the spoon and he says it's yummy. My 2 year old daughter loves it too. I started giving them to her and take them myself . She has no issues with speech or anything, but I figured they were good for all of us. I do try to keep up with reading some of the messages, but there are so many. Thanks for all your help! I love this list! Fran in PA
