Guest guest
To add insult to injury, Meagan is once again in the hospital. Not only did we receive the devastating news that her Cochlear Implant did not fire upon initial stimulation this week, but we had to take her to the ER lastnight for dehydration. Meagan came home from CI surgery Thursday afternoon. Friday morning we took her to have her bandages removed; she was a little " urpy /nauseous on the way to the doctor's office. We chalked it up to the pain meds on a relatively empty stomach. Then the diarrhea started Thursday late afternoon. We chalked that up to her antibiotic (it always blesses the poor girl with the runs). Friday was a little more of the same. But, yesterday, things took a turn for the worse...and fast. Long story short, Meagan was looking a little dry to us, so lastnight we decided to put her back on her pump to drip fluids into her belly all night long. I put her down at 10:30 (she was looking gaunt in the eyes and had a wimpy cry, but could still fight like the dickens). A half an hour later, her pump alarmed. went in and literally ran out sobbing. He said he actually thought she was dead. I went and checked on her. She was lifeless, gaunt, dark around the eyes, wouldn't close her mouth and couldn't see us; she would look past us. She really looked as if death were hovering close by. and his dad made the trip into the ER where nurses took her back immediately. Hooking her up to an IV was a chore, but it was successful and they immediately hand-pushed in 200 cc's (almost 7 ounces) of fluid. They said there was no time to wait. Then they allowed the IV to drip another 400 cc's (almost 13 ounces) in. They did a ton of blood work, and so far it's just confirming her dehydration (high sodium levels). She was admitted lastnight because although she had been re hydrated, her diarrhea still persisted. They don't want to stop the diarrhea incase she has something viral. That way it can run it's course and be done. As this info was being relayed to me over the phone at 2 am this morning, Meagan's twin began vomiting. This went on every half an hour for what seemed like forever. She is still sick, but is now down to about every hour and a half. Then, as I was sharing the news of Meagan and over the phone with my mom at 7 this morning, began to cry. He was apologizing to me for throwing up in my bed. He said he couldn't run fast enough to get to the bathroom on time. My guess is that we have a bug in the house....what do your think?!? PS... Enjoy the attached photos of Meagan and her bandages. Her siblings had a great time doing arts and crafts on their sister! I know it doesn't go through to the CHARGE group...sorry! , mommy to Meagan (CHaRgE) and 2 year old twins, and big brother 4 1/2 years, married to the best daddy in the world for 9 years! Guest guest
- A bug, huh? That's one powerful little insect you guys have!! And what timing the creature has coming just after surgery! I hope everyone gets over it quickly. I suppose it's some relief to find the kids all coming down with it - at least you don't have lots of questions about what happened to Meagan. The trick is to get her delicate little body well. Sending prayers for a speedy recovery to all - and hoping that this bug doesn't like grown-ups so you and stay well to do all the caretaking. Hugs- Michele W

Guest guest
, I truly know how you feel. Many, many years ago started the same symptoms. It was ghastly - especially when the idiot er dr did various tests and came up with wrong, wrong answers. She simply had a viral infection which passed fairly quickly. Good luck to all of you and know that my thoughts are with you. Martha

Guest guest
Thank you for everyone's kind responses. Sometimes letting it all out on this group is just what the doctor ordered! Meagan is still in the PICU, and we hope to get her home today. Her sodium levels were so high at the time of admission, that she was on the verge of being 100% unresponsive. Because of the high levels, they wanted her to come back down slowly. In fact, yesterday they had to slow her down as the numbers began to drop too quickly has been staying with her so I can stay here with the other two sickies. The good news is that the bug has left the house! And all but a queasy stomach (which could've been from all of my up close and personal encounters with too many vomits!), I skated by without any harm! But, I want to thank you all. What a great family I have in you! , mommy to Meagan (CHaRgE) and 2 year old twins, and big brother 4 years, married to the best daddy in the world for 9 years!
